World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices increased slightly. At the end of yesterday's trading session (April 9), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 3.7% and 1.2% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued to increase. At 7:34 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 98.59 USD/barrel, up 0.72 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.74%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 97.87 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 98.08 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 96.77 USD/barrel, up 0.37 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.38%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 96.40 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 96.39 USD/barrel.
Developments in the Strait of Hormuz are causing world oil prices to fluctuate sharply.
According to analysts, the two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran still contains many risks. Doubts about the sustainability of this agreement increase concerns that energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz continue to be disrupted, thereby putting pressure to push oil prices up.
Previously, in the 8th session on April (Vietnam time), the prices of both oils fell below $100/barrel. WTI oil even recorded the strongest drop since April 2020, thanks to expectations that the ceasefire would help the Strait of Hormuz reopen.
However, the actual effectiveness of the ceasefire is still questionable. The flow of ships through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday fell below 10% of the normal level, after Iran affirmed control of the area and warned ships to move within its territorial waters.

Proposal to reduce taxes on gasoline and oil to 0 until the end of June
The government proposes to reduce the environmental protection tax on gasoline (excluding ethanol), diesel oil, aviation fuel, kerosene and mazut to 0 VND.
Along with that, gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel are not subject to declaration and payment of value-added tax but are still eligible for input deduction. The special consumption tax rate for all types of gasoline is also proposed to be applied at 0%.
This was made by the Government in the context of the Middle East conflict causing the global energy market, including Vietnam, to be greatly affected, and fuel prices to skyrocket.
If approved by the National Assembly at the first session, this policy will be applied from April 16 to the end of June 30.
