World oil prices today
World oil prices fell sharply today. At 10:21 (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil was at 70.69 USD/barrel, down 0.68 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.94%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 71.37 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 71.22 USD/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $74.46 a barrel, down $0.72 a barrel, or 0.96 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $75.18 a barrel and opened today at $75.02 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices are on a sharp decline. At the end of yesterday's trading session (February 12), crude oil prices fell by more than 2%. Brent and WTI oil fell by 2.36% and 2.66%, respectively.
According to Reuters, oil prices fell after phone calls between US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to find a solution to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Analysts say President Donald Trump's push for peace talks has helped reduce risks to oil prices.
Meanwhile, investors are assessing the next move of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) on interest rates, following the speech of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell on February 11 and data on February 12 showing that US consumer prices in January increased higher than expected.
Analysts say the combination of higher inflation and prospects for peace in Ukraine is creating selling pressure in the market.
