World oil prices today
World oil prices simultaneously fell sharply. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI oil price was at 84.88 USD/barrel, down 2.83 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.23%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 87.71 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 86.64 USD/barrel. This is the lowest level of WTI oil price since April 17.
Brent oil price was at 87.33 USD/barrel, down 3.05 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.37%. Brent oil price ended the previous trading session at 90.38 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 88.87 USD/barrel. Thus, Brent oil price has fallen to its lowest level since the beginning of March.
According to analysts, oil prices fell as the market received positive information about the negotiation process between the US and Iran. The main factor putting pressure on oil prices is Iran's announcement that the two sides have reached a draft memorandum of understanding.
According to sources, the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending tensions in the Gulf region may be signed as early as next Sunday, with Geneva being considered a likely location for the signing ceremony.
Previously, US President Donald Trump canceled plans to airstrike Iran on Thursday. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also said that the parties had agreed to pass the final document of the peace agreement between the US and Iran.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the draft memorandum has set out a 60-day negotiation roadmap towards an agreement on Tehran's nuclear program, while moving towards the complete lifting of Washington's primary and secondary sanctions.
Experts believe that new developments are continuing to dominate market sentiment. The belief is increasing that the US and Iran will reach an agreement, thereby helping to reduce the risk of supply disruption and paving the way for oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz to return to normal.
However, analysts also noted that global oil inventories are still low and may continue to decline in the near future. Even if the agreement is signed, the market still needs more time to fully restore oil flows and energy supply chains.
In the opposite direction, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) still maintains an optimistic view on the prospects of oil consumption demand. OPEC forecasts that global oil demand in 2027 will increase by 1.73 million barrels/day, 19,000 barrels/day higher than the previous forecast.
