World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continue to record notable fluctuations. At the end of yesterday's trading session (September 3), WTI oil prices increased by 0.32%, while Brent oil decreased by 0.12%.
By this morning's session, both oil items simultaneously increased. At 8:19 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 91.80 USD/barrel, up 0.50 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.55%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 91.30 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 91.64 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 96.01 USD/barrel, up 0.19 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.20%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 95.82 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 95.85 USD/barrel.
World oil prices fluctuate in a narrow range as US airstrikes on Iran and new warnings from Israel increase concerns that oil supplies from the Middle East could be disrupted.
The Iranian Minister of Health said that US airstrikes on the night of September 2 killed 18 people and injured 108 others. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that 4 people were killed and 67 injured at a wedding near the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. Semi-official Tasnim news agency also reported that 3 Iranian military pilots were killed in the airstrikes.
This is the largest-scale firefight between the US and Iran since July.
US Vice President JD Vance said Washington has no plans to negotiate with Tehran unless Iran stops attacks on merchant ships across the Strait of Hormuz.
While tensions in the Middle East support oil prices, positive signals about the possibility of Russia-Ukraine peace talks are creating pressure in the opposite direction.
On September 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that there is still a possibility of reaching an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine. Speaking at an economic forum in the Russian Far East, Putin said that some countries, including the US and China, are ready to support efforts to find a peaceful solution.
Meanwhile, transportation through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be low. Preliminary data shows that only 6 cargo ships passed through this sea route on September 2, down from 11 ships a day earlier and much lower than the average of about 13 ships per day in the last 10 days.
