World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices have just recorded a strong increase. At the end of the first trading session of the week (August 31), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 2.71% and 2.83% respectively. During the session, Brent oil prices at one point reached 91.52 USD/barrel, the highest since August 25.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued to rise. At 8:53 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 86.36 USD/barrel, up 0.60 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.70%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 85.76 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 86.30 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 90.88 USD/barrel, up 0.14 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.15%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 90.74 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 90.74 USD/barrel.
World oil prices rose sharply after information that the US and Iran resumed military attacks, raising concerns that prolonged conflict could disrupt global oil supplies.
US President Donald Trump declared that he would "attack hard" after Iran launched missiles at night targeting two US air bases in Jordan. Tehran's move is said to be in response to Washington's attack on Iran's Larak Island.
On August 30, Mr. Trump posted on social media, declaring that Kharg Island - Iran's important energy center - is being " blown away into pieces".
The Iranian side rejected this statement, affirming that Kharg Island was not attacked and oil exploitation activities here are still taking place normally.
While military tensions are increasing, intermediaries are still trying to push for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, negotiations have not yet made progress.
Sea transport data shows that ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be low. Last weekend, the number of cargo ships recorded passing through this sea route decreased to only about 5 ships per day.
