World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fluctuated sharply, ending yesterday's trading session (May 6), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 7.03% and 7.83% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities reversed to increase. At 7:50 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 96.07 USD/barrel, up 1.01 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.06%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 95.08 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 95.67 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 102.10 USD/barrel, up 0.08 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.08%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 102.02 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 102.01 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, world oil prices fluctuate sharply as the US and Iran are moving closer to agreeing on a one-page memorandum to end the conflict, while creating a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations in the near future.
Iran is still considering proposals from the US and is expected to forward feedback to Pakistan after completing the assessment process. Previously, Tehran affirmed that it would only accept a "fair and comprehensive" agreement with Washington.
Meanwhile, the US is said to be waiting for feedback from Iran on some key issues in the next 48 hours. Although no official agreement has been reached, sources assess that this is the closest time for the two sides to reach an agreement since the conflict broke out.
Experts believe that expectations of restoring transportation through the Strait of Hormuz - the world's strategic shipping route - are the main factor pulling oil prices down. However, cautious sentiment still dominates the market, showing that the negotiation process still faces many obstacles.
