World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fell sharply, ending yesterday's trading session (May 5), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 3.9% and 4% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil items continued to decrease sharply. At 7:46 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 100.99 USD/barrel, down 1.28 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.25%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 102.27 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 102.51 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 108.72 USD/barrel, down 1.71 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.55%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 110.43 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 110.43 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, world oil prices fell partly thanks to positive signals related to the maintenance of the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. In addition, the market also tends to "cool down" after a long streak of strong increases in the past time.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Tuesday that it was attacked by Iran with missiles and drones. However, Iran denied this accusation. Meanwhile, the US affirmed that it has ensured the safety of transportation through the Strait of Hormuz.
There are still hundreds of ships waiting to pass through the Hormuz Strait area. However, the fact that some ships are starting to move back, although still limited, is seen as a positive sign for the global energy market.
In addition to geopolitical developments, the market is also focusing on weekly US crude oil inventory reports. Analysts estimate that US oil inventories may have decreased by about 3.3 million barrels in the week ending May 1.
If confirmed, this will be the second consecutive week of falling US crude oil inventories, a factor that could support oil prices in the short term. This expected decrease is also significantly higher than the decrease of 2 million barrels in the same period last year and the average decrease of 2.3 million barrels in the period 2021-2025.
