World oil prices today
World oil prices continued to decline last week. At the end of the trading week, WTI crude oil was at 68.00 USD/barrel last week, down to 67.20 USD/barrel this weekend. Overall, WTI crude oil decreased by 0.8 USD/barrel last week, an increase or decrease of 1.2% compared to the previous week.
Brent crude oil was at $72.94/barrel last week, down to $71.12/barrel this weekend. Overall, Brent crude oil fell $1.82/barrel last week, down 2.5% from the previous week.
Thus, world oil prices have fallen for two consecutive weeks after a sharp increase the previous week. According to Reuters, oil prices fell sharply when the forecast of oversupply in 2025 continued to be made, despite the decision of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC +) to postpone the plan to increase supply to April 2025 and extend the production cut period until the end of 2026.
Oil prices are also being weighed down by signs of weak demand in China and rising geopolitical risks in the Middle East, Reuters reported.
Also weighing on oil prices was the US oil rig count, which rose by five to 482, the highest since mid-October, while the gas rig count rose to 102, the highest since early November.
