Resonating power
The political report of the 1st Dong Thap Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, clearly identified that after the merger, Dong Thap province with a development space stretching from the headwaters of the Tien River to the East Sea, has opened up a larger and more dynamic economic space.
With the strengths of industry, export and agricultural commodities, this combination is expected to create a value chain between raw material areas and processing areas, between agricultural production and supporting industries, etc.
In reality, Dong Thap province is a large rice granary, fruit granary, and aquaculture granary of the country. This is a condition to help the province become a leader in building an ecological and modern agriculture. Meanwhile, the trend of shifting industrial investment from Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region to neighboring provinces and areas with favorable transportation conditions is a great opportunity for the province to develop rapidly in industry.
Master Nguyen Phuoc Tuyen - former Director of the Agricultural Extension Center of Dong Thap province - commented that Dong Thap province is currently considered the "fruitful kingdom" of the country with a total area of fruit trees of up to about 150,000 hectares.
The merger of two localities with coastal and inland terrain also creates a backyard for managers planning maps for crops and livestock adapting to climate change - the rising sea water is in line with the reality that the people of the two localities have spontaneously and silently implemented for many years.
How to organize development space
The goal by 2030 is that Dong Thap will be a locality with rapid industrial development, ecological agriculture, leading the Mekong Delta region. Further, by 2045, the province will lead the country in a number of agricultural fields and develop advanced industry. On that basis, at the Dong Thap Provincial Party Congress, delegates agreed to organize a development space for the "two in one" strategy.

For agriculture, the Dong Thap Muoi area and the localities at the headwaters of the Tien River have been developed into a center for the production of rice, lotus, and freshwater aquatic products. The rice industry, the province effectively implemented the Project of 1 million hectares of quality rice, investing in building a rice processing area at the Thuong Phuoc international border gate economic zone.
For the seafood industry, the province will continue to aim to make Dong Thap a high-quality freshwater fish breeding center, a leading center for deep processing and pangasius export in the country. The value of lotus trees will be stabilized, the province will plan stable growing areas, diversify products from food, medicinal herbs, cosmetics, tourism, etc.
Develop the freshwater alluvial area along the Tien River into a specialized area for growing specialty fruit and ornamental flowers at the national level. Restructuring key fruit growing areas such as durian, mango, jackfruit, longan, guava... towards improving quality, food safety, and expanding export markets. Enhancing Sa Dec flower village to become a center for high-tech ornamental flowers nationwide.
Determining the industry as a locomotive, Dong Thap organizes in a profound, modern and sustainable direction. In particular, developing industrial parks along the Tien and Hau rivers into leading agricultural and aquatic product processing centers in the country; focusing on attracting projects to deeply process fruits, rice, lotus, and seafood.
Along with that, speed up the investment progress of Tan Kieu, Song Hau 2, Cao Lanh II, III, Hoa Tan industrial parks; form closed chains from raw material areas to processing factories, associated with the development of logistics services for cold storage and transportation.
