On the afternoon of September 30, in the second working session of the first Dong Thap Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, the delegation divided into 10 groups to discuss the draft Documents of the 14th National Party Congress and the draft Documents of the Provincial Party Congress.
Delegates focused on discussing 3 adaptive solutions: after provincial mergers, global climate change - rising sea levels, markets and integration.

After the merger, Dong Thap province is a locality with a long historical and cultural tradition, rich in identity, the gateway to the Mekong Delta, with an area of nearly 6,000 km2, more than 4.2 million people, development space stretching from the border with Cambodia, the source of the Tien River to the East Sea. greater economic space and higher competitiveness are conditions for the province to promote the strengths of industry, export and agricultural goods; strengthen transport infrastructure linkages, and develop the marine economy.
This combination will create a value chain between raw material and processing zones, between agricultural production and supporting industries, increase export value, create outstanding value, rise up, develop strongly, comprehensively, sustainably in the new historical period. The new geographical location helps to better connect with key traffic routes such as highways, national highways, coastal roads, and Tien River waterways. Trade between Dong Thap Muoi, Go Cong sea area and neighboring areas will be promoted, creating momentum to connect the Mekong Delta with the Southeast key economic region.
With the advantage of large rice granaries, fruit granaries, and aquaculture granaries nationwide, the province has many conditions to become a leading locality in building an ecological and modern economy. The development planning of the Mekong Delta and the planning of Dong Thap province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, being adjusted and implemented will be a condition and legal basis for the province to exploit the potential and advantages of rapid and sustainable development.
According to the forecast, in the coming years, the regional situation will continue to develop complicatedly: natural disasters, epidemics, climate change, environmental pollution, declining water quality, ... are challenges that directly affect the socio-economic development of the province.
The two-level local government model has identified challenges that require early adaptation and overcoming, such as the quality and smoothness of public services; a harmonious, synchronous and timely coordination mechanism in management and development.
