On June 19, in Tan Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department ( Customs Department) coordinated with the Customs Department of Region IX to organize a rally to propagate drug prevention and control in 2025.
The event attracted the participation of customs officials, civil servants, workers in import-export units and enterprises and a large number of local people. At the rally, the Organizing Committee disseminated legal knowledge on drug prevention and control, especially the Law on Drug Prevention and Control 2021 and Decree 105/2021/ND-CP of the Government.
The program also focuses on propagating the harmful effects of drugs, new types of drugs, methods of illegal production, trading and transportation of drugs, and at the same time introducing outstanding results in the fight against drugs of the Customs force in recent times.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Customs Department Luu Manh Tuong emphasized that drugs are a global problem and the fight against drugs is extremely fierce and complicated. He said that the Customs force has proactively coordinated with the Police, Border Guard, Coast Guard and other authorities to prevent transnational drug rings early and remotely.
According to statistics from the Customs Department, from December 15, 2024 to June 14, 2025, the whole industry has detected and handled 103 cases of illegal drug trafficking and transportation with 110 subjects. The total amount of seized evidence was nearly 2 tons of various drugs, of which ketamine accounted for 1,471 kg, synthetic drugs were 273.5 kg.
Although the number of arrests decreased sharply compared to the same period last year (a decrease of 80 cases), the amount of drugs seized increased by 94.7%. This shows that the trend of criminals is shifting to transporting drugs in large quantities instead of small quantities as before, using more sophisticated tricks such as hiding in transit goods, express delivery, e-commerce and taking advantage of high technology.
Mr. Luu Manh Tuong warned: Medicine is a super-profit product. The criminals not only operate in groups but also lure relatives, forming organized networks at home and abroad to avoid detection by the authorities.
Deputy Director Luu Manh Tuong emphasized that the determination of specialized forces can only be effective when accompanied by the people. The month of drug prevention and control action and the National Day for Drug Prevention and Control is an opportunity for the whole society to raise awareness and clearly understand the dangers of drugs, thereby forming community responsibility.
The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry calls on the people to unite with the specialized forces, act wholeheartedly and responsibly for the safety of society, the future of the young generation and the sustainable development of the country, said Mr. Tuong.
According to the leader of the Customs sector, state management of customs will continue to be seriously implemented. At the same time, the industry will strengthen coordination, improve the effectiveness of the fight against and suppression of drug crimes, promptly prevent the act of illegally transporting and trading drugs and precursors right from border gates and border routes.
