Belonging to the project of installing the second 500kV - 900MVA transformer and the second 220kV - 250MVA transformer, 500kV Chon Thanh substation, thereby increasing the station's capacity to 1,400MVA.
The project is invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation, the NPTPMB will manage the project, and Power Transmission Company 4 will receive the operation. The project was built at the existing 500kV Chon Thanh transformer station in Minh Thanh ward, Chon Thanh town, Binh Phuoc province (old), now Chon Thanh ward, Dong Nai province.
The project has a scale of installing 1 500kV - 900 MVA transformer; Install 1 220kV-250MVA transformer; Install 1 2,500A - 24mH anti-lock sets; Install 1 500kV equipment part; Install 2 220kV equipment partitions and Install 4 110kV equipment partitions. After the project is completed, the station's capacity will increase to 2,300MVA, double the current capacity.
After the project is energized, it will help ensure a stable and reliable power supply to serve the socio-economic development of Dong Nai province and neighboring areas; Increase the reliability and transmission capacity of the power grid to supply electricity to the Southern power system. In addition, the project helps reduce power losses in the transmission grid, increase EVN's electricity production and business efficiency, and at the same time create favorable conditions to reduce power outage time for upgrading the existing 220kV & 110kV power grid when necessary; Strengthen stability for the power system and ensure national energy security.
Mr. Le Tuan Anh - Deputy Director of NPTPMB said: During the project implementation process, there were many difficulties and challenges due to the construction of a transformer station carrying electricity, along with contractors being dispersed due to the simultaneous construction of other key projects in the Electricity industry. However, with the close direction of EVNNPT leaders, NPTPMB and project participants made efforts to complete the project's first phase in October 2025 to comply with the instructions of superiors.
For phase 2, NPTPMB is directing contractors to increase manpower, focus on construction to power 500kV transformer with a capacity of 900MVA, striving to complete the entire project in the first quarter of 2026 to ensure power supply for Dong Nai province and neighboring provinces in the Southeast region. This is a vibrant economic development area of the country and has a fast growth rate of electricity.
