HCMC - VSIP III Industrial Park in HCMC will produce rooftop solar power and sell this green energy source to factories.

On September 17, Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture Company Limited (abbreviated as VSIP) signed a direct power purchase agreement with LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as LEGO, VSIP III Industrial Park, Binh Co Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

According to the agreement, renewable power from VSIP's large-scale solar power system will be transmitted to LEGO's factory through an industrial battery storage system, ensuring a stable renewable power supply for the factory.

According to the assessment, this is the first large-scale renewable energy solution designed specifically for the industrial production sector in Vietnam.

VSIP III Industrial Park with an area of 1,000 hectares started construction in March 2022 and LEGO is one of the first enterprises to build a factory here. Within just 2 years, the LEGO factory with an investment capital of over 1 billion USD was completed and put into operation.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Thinh - General Director of VSIP, said: This agreement demonstrates the common commitment of the two sides to promote the transition to renewable energy, while establishing a new standard for low-emission production in Vietnam. The integration of rooftop solar power and battery storage systems shows that industrial parks can completely pioneer in providing reliable green energy solutions".

Currently, LEGO's factory has installed thousands of rooftop solar panels on buildings and met about 75% of energy needs. Buying renewable energy from VSIP will solve the remaining 25% of demand to achieve the goal of using 100% renewable energy in production. The sustainable energy from the deal is expected to help create about 15,000 tons of CO2e per year, according to the assessment.

According to records, Ho Chi Minh City is gradually converting traditional industrial parks to the development of smart, green, and ecological industrial parks. The area of Binh Duong province, formerly (in the North of Ho Chi Minh City), had about 30 industrial parks. Some industrial parks are developing towards ecological and sustainable industrial parks. VSIP III Industrial Park using renewable energy is one of the solutions to develop the industrial park according to the orientation of Ho Chi Minh City.
