On June 9, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province announced that it had concluded by the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Huu Hoang at a meeting to listen to a report on the situation and results of the implementation of the work of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has not had any fishing vessels violating foreign waters.
To date, 3,414 fishing vessels have been fully registered and updated on the Vnfishbase system; 100% of qualified vessels have been marked and numbered in accordance with regulations. Of the 630 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more, 628 have installed voyage monitoring equipment (VMS), 602 have been granted food safety and hygiene certificates.
Khanh Hoa is also a leading locality in deploying the electronic traceability system (eCDT), closely monitoring seafood processing and export activities. IUU violations were strictly handled, with 4 cases being punished, with a total amount of 20 million VND.
Khanh Hoa province still has some shortcomings such as ships whose mining licenses have expired, ships that have stopped connecting to VMS, ships that have expired for inspection, etc.
Mr. Le Huu Hoang directed localities to simultaneously carry out the work of arranging organizations, apparatus and implementing tasks to combat IUU fishing; prioritize the allocation, mobilization, increase of human resources, funding, and equipment for local agencies and functional forces to carry out tasks to combat IUU fishing.
Resolutely handle the responsibility of organizations and individuals who do not fulfill their assigned duties and tasks, assist and condone IUU fishing, affecting the common efforts to remove the "Yellowship Card" warning of the whole country.
Permanent Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Province Le Huu Hoang directed localities to also review, verify, and make a list of fishing vessels that have been bought and sold, transferred but have not been transferred or changed owners; fishing vessels registered but no longer operating locally to the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
The Khanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command will direct Border Guard Stations and Control Stations to only conduct inspections, carry out procedures for importing and leaving fishing vessels at fishing ports according to regulations and arrange sufficient human resources to perform the above tasks; manage and supervise to ensure the number of fishing vessels leaving and arriving at ports is determined by the number of fishing vessels entering and leaving at Border Stations/Border Stations.
Focus on investigating, verifying, and strictly handling fishing vessels that have lost VMS connection at sea for more than 10 days without returning to shore, fishing vessels that cross the permitted boundary at sea have not been punished according to regulations. Report the implementation results and propose handling of the remaining problems (if any) to the Provincial People's Committee.
