Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment: Green transition is a mandatory requirement

Green transformation is becoming a mandatory requirement to improve Vietnam's competitiveness and build a new growth model. At the 2026 Green Transformation Day event, Mr. Le Cong Thanh, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized that, in the face of pressure from climate change, emission reduction and international green standards, Vietnam needs to shift from a resource-based growth model to a model based on science, technology, innovation and sustainable development.
According to leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, green transformation must be implemented synchronously in all fields such as agriculture, industry, urban areas, transportation, renewable energy, finance and green consumption. Each locality and business needs to proactively build a specific transformation roadmap, while promoting the circular economy, using resources effectively and reducing emissions to participate more deeply in the global value chain.
To promote this process, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment proposes to unlock resources such as green credit, green bonds, sustainable finance and carbon markets; and at the same time emphasizes the role of the State in perfecting institutions, businesses in innovation in production and people in changing consumer behavior. Leaders of the Ministry believe that with the joint efforts of the whole society, Vietnam will gradually form a green growth model, with higher competitiveness and resilience in the future. Vietnamese durian accelerates exports, expanding room from deep processing
Vietnam's durian exports in the first quarter of 2026 recorded strong recovery signals after a difficult period in 2025 due to import markets tightening requirements on food safety and traceability. In the first 3 months of 2026, export turnover reached about 221.7 million USD, an increase of 230% compared to the same period, with an output of more than 80,000 tons.

The bright spot of the industry is the strong growth of frozen durian. After increasing nearly 20 times in 2025, this item continued to maintain its upward momentum in 2026 with export prices about 18-22% higher than fresh durian. Thanks to its long shelf life, convenient transportation and access to demanding markets, frozen durian is becoming a new direction to help businesses reduce risks and expand deep processing.
Vietnam's durian industry is currently gradually shifting from a hot growth model to a development based on quality and added value. Farmers and businesses are paying more attention to farming processes, traceability, growing area codes, cold storage investment and production chain linkages to meet international standards, thereby enhancing the position and brand of Vietnamese durian in the global market.
