Can Tho - Lieu Tu commune aims to have 40% of rice area converted to smart agriculture by 2030, towards a national model of sustainable agriculture.

On August 17, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Lieu Tu commune (Can Tho city) said that the locality has just signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with Toan Cau Clean Organic Agriculture Company Limited to implement the "Smart Organic Agricultural Model", aiming at sustainable agricultural development, low emissions, increasing income for people and protecting the environment.

Accordingly, the model focuses on developing organic rice and shrimp farming in an organic direction (can combine rice - shrimp), in order to create safe products, meeting organic standards for the domestic market and aiming for export.

The enterprise will survey the production area, provide seeds, organic materials, biological products, support capital, transfer techniques and organize training for farmers. At the same time, commit to guaranteeing products at pre-agreed prices and implementing weather index insurance for both rice and shrimp, minimizing risks due to climate change.

In the field of shrimp farming, the model is designed to be environmentally friendly, low-emission, high-efficiency, along with packages to support breeds, feed and farming techniques. Weather insurance is expected to become a "safe buffer" for farmers in the face of increasing drought, salinity, and extreme heat in the Mekong Delta.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duy emphasized that with the strategy of building an agricultural value chain based on Glorin technology in origin authentication and carbon credit measurement, on the basis of 5,000 hectares of organic rice, Lieu Tu commune aims to have at least 40% of the area switched to the smart agricultural model by 2030.

"This is not only an economic project, but also a journey to build the Lieu Tu organic rice brand with technology, making the locality a national model of sustainable, transparent and modern agriculture," Mr. Duy affirmed.

Mr. Duy said that to implement it, the locality will propagate and mobilize farmers to participate; arrange land, support infrastructure and administrative procedures; coordinate training, seminars and technical supervision. After the pilot phase, the two sides will summarize, evaluate the effectiveness and replicate the model. 1/5 Agricultural Cooperative was selected to pioneer the pilot implementation of over 100 hectares in the upcoming Winter-Spring crop.

The enterprise also committed to accompanying farmers, aiming for a profit of 70 - 80 million VND/ha, bringing Lieu Tu organic rice to the international market.
