Getting rich on a hilly land
In recent years, the model of growing red-fleshed jackfruit on the hillside has brought great economic potential to many households in Quang Tri. Red-fleshed tarpaulin is a type of plant that is easy to care for, high-yielding and suitable for the local climate and soil. Thanks to that, this type of tree has gradually made its mark on the agricultural product market.
From 2020 to present, the Red-fleshed jackfruit model has been implemented by the Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the Quang Tri Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection and localities in the province.
Mr. Nguyen Van Diem (Nam Trach commune, Quang Tri province) is one of the households receiving support to implement the model. Thanks to careful investment and good care, his red-fleshed jackfruit garden has now achieved high productivity and quality.
Mr. Diem said: "This is the third year of harvesting red-fleshed jackfruit. This year'smits are in good harvest with an estimated total output of about 50 tons, nearly double that of 2024. With the support and support of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, my family's red-fleshed jackfruit model is leading in quality, productivity and high income".
Also in Nam Trach commune, Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong's red-fleshed jackfruit model is highly appreciated for its quality and productivity. According to him, red-fleshed jackfruit gardens are harvested with a large output, bringing a stable economic source. Since then, family life and many people have improved significantly. Mr. Phuong's success is the motivation for many other households in the commune to switch to growing red-fleshed jackfruit.
Sustainable development
Not only in Nam Trach commune, red-fleshed jackfruit growing models in other localities have also been of interest to many households, including Bo Trach commune. In 2021, Mr. Bui Anh Tuan chose to build a red-fleshed jackfruit model interspersed with green-skinned grapefruit on the hilly land.
After a period of implementing the model, he realized that red-fleshed jackfruit is a tree variety that is not only easy to care for but also brings more stable economic efficiency than other fruit trees. Currently, the model has an area of about 10 hectares with 1,600 red-fleshed jackfruit trees.
"Red-fleshed jackfruit is productive, with many fruits weighing nearly 30kg, promising a bumper crop, helping the lives of my family and many other households improve their lives. In the future, I plan to change the method of using a refrigerator to preserve products for a long time and create a new flavor of agricultural products on the market, Mr. Tuan shared.
Mr. Doan Ngoc Nhan - Vice Chairman of Nam Trach Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri Province) - said: "Currently, there are more than 21 households in the area participating in the model of growing red-fleshed jackfruit with a total area of over 34 hectares. Many households have begun to cooperate with each other to establish cooperative groups to ensure farming techniques, share markets and build brands".
Red-fleshed tar not only brings economic efficiency, improving the lives of Quang Tri people but also contributes to building a brand of agricultural products typical of the hillside area. Therefore, the red-fleshed jackfruit model is gradually expanding in many areas of Quang Tri province and creating an OCOP product brand for the homeland.
