On July 1, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province, in the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the province has planted over 9,000 hectares of rice and prepared land on over 22,000 hectares.
Currently, localities are focusing on draining water and preparing the land for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop. With favorable weather conditions, it is expected that the planting work will be completed before January 15, and at the latest January 20.
In this Winter-Spring crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province continues to accompany businesses inside and outside the province to produce and consume organic rice, VietGap, rice seeds, and commercial rice with an area of rice linked to production and product consumption of over 1,000 hectares.
In Quang Tri, a number of models of production and consumption of organic rice, VietGap, rice seeds, and commercial rice are being implemented effectively. In particular, there is a model of linking organic rice production with "no footprint" between Quang Tri Trading Corporation Joint Stock Company and Xuan Hoa Cooperative (Trung Hai Commune, Gio Linh District).
This model uses transplanters, seeders; uses drones to spray pesticides. Compared to traditional planting, the application of modern equipment helps reduce costs, labor, ensures people's health and higher rice productivity.
Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that he has requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to advise the Provincial People's Committee to develop specific projects and policies to encourage land consolidation and plot exchange, aiming for "footprint-free" fields to help farmers increase productivity and efficiency in production, and improve the quality of life.
“Promoting propaganda to gradually change farmers' awareness and production practices about the benefits of organic rice production, aiming at developing clean and sustainable agriculture, is completely suitable for practical conditions and development trends of the locality and region,” said Mr. Ha Sy Dong.
Quang Tri province strives to develop over 2,000 hectares of "zero footprint" organic rice from now until 2030.
In this locality, agriculture is the foundation of the economy with over 70% of the population living on agriculture. Therefore, the province will continue to have more accurate and precise orientations and strategies for the agricultural sector, farmers, and rural areas so that farmers can have a better life and working environment.
