On June 18, information from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said that Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Thanh An signed a decision to administratively sanction Hanoi Jewelry and Gold Joint Stock Company (located in Trang Tien Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi) for violating many regulations in mineral exploitation activities in Doi Ty - Khe Met area, Chau Binh Commune, Quy Chau District.
According to the inspection conclusion, the enterprise committed many violations such as: illegally occupying agricultural land with an area of 1.28 hectares; not properly implementing the content in the decision approving the environmental impact assessment report; arranging a hazardous waste storage area that was not in accordance with regulations - without storage compartments, not having waste product codes.
In addition, the authorities also discovered 10 other violations, including: not making an environmental protection report; setting up corners that were not properly marked; not installing a weighing station to monitor minerals from the mine; not submitting an approved mine design; exploiting beyond the permitted boundary with an area of 626m2; not having complete mine clearance and actual exploitation output records in 2023-2024.
The total amount of administrative fines is 782 million VND. At the same time, the enterprise was forced to return 137 million VND of illegal profits, bringing the total amount payable to 919 million VND.
The Ruby - Saphia gemstone mine in the Doi Ty - Khe Met area was licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) to Hanoi Jewelry and Gold Joint Stock Company under Decision No. 167/GP-BTNMT dated September 15, 2020, for a term of 5 years and 7 months. The exploitation area is 4.72ha, the licensed reserve is more than 229kg of precious stones, the exploitation capacity is 50kg/year.
