On May 9, according to information from the People's Committee of Yen Bai province, Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just signed a document to sanction administrative violations in the environmental field against MERIDA Vietnam Wood Industry Company Limited (in Phai Nam Industrial Park, Phu Thinh Commune, Yen Binh District, Yen Bai Province).
The reason is that the New Wanli Vietnam Floor Panelling Factory Project (now MERIDA Vietnam Wood Industry Company Limited) is subject to an environmental license according to regulations and is operating without an environmental license.
For the above violation, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province fined this enterprise 320 million VND. In addition, the operation of the waste generating source without an environmental license of the New Wanli Vietnam Floor P bored Factory Project was suspended for a period of 4.5 months.
According to the investigation, New Wanli Vietnam Co., Ltd. built a New Wanli Vietnam plank factory (now Merida Wood Industry Co., Ltd.) with a total investment of 69 billion VND, covering an area of 5.3 hectares.
In 2021, although this factory did not have any design documents, construction permits, or had not been granted a competent decision on land allocation or lease, it had arbitrarily leveled the ground and built a factory.
By 2023, the factory will complete phase I of the construction of the factory area and go into operation. However, the fire prevention and fighting procedures have not been approved by competent authorities.
