Recorded at Tran De Fishing Port (Tran De District, Soc Trang Province) these days, boats continuously dock to load seafood.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tam - a fisherman in Tran De town - said that after a month-long trip at sea, his two fishing boats caught more than 10 tons of various types of seafood.
“After nearly half a year of unprofitable fishing due to strong winds and waves, in the past 1-2 months, the boats have had fish. Prices are also relatively favorable, so after deducting expenses, each boat makes a profit of about 100 million VND,” said Mr. Tam.
Mr. Tam said that his family has prepared materials for the year-end sea trip. Although there will be a lot of storms in the next 3 months, this is also the time when the most fish and shrimp are caught.
Fisherman Hoang Tanh in Tran De town said that the current price of seafood is relatively stable, although not high, it is still profitable. For fish waste (used to make food powder), the price is from 6,000 - 8,000 VND/kg; mackerel and tuna are priced from 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg; squid is priced from 120,000 - 240,000 VND/kg, crab is priced from 170,000 - 300,000 VND/kg,...
"If the weather is favorable and a lot of fish and shrimp are caught, on average each boat after 3 months of exploitation will make a profit of 100 - 300 million VND after deducting all expenses," said Mr. Tanh.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang province, the province currently has about 1,000 ships with a total capacity of 209,050CV. Since the beginning of the year, the output has been 51,923 tons (up 1.94% over the same period).
The increase in fishing output has helped develop the fishing logistics services here. Currently, in the Tran De Fishing Port area, there are 24 enterprises processing and preparing aquatic and seafood products; 50 fishing logistics service businesses, 3 industrial-scale processing enterprises, meeting export standards to markets with high requirements on quality and food safety such as Japan, the US, and the EU.
At the Fishing Port, a stevedore union with over 120 workers has been established. The average income of each worker is from 7 to 10 million VND/month. During the main fishing season, the income can reach 14 to 15 million VND/month.
