In addition to this result, by the end of the first 10 months of 2025, the total import value of completely built-up cars of all kinds and components and auto parts nationwide reached 8.5 billion USD, up 23.8% over the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of 1.63 billion USD.
Whole cars increase in both quantity and value
According to statistics from customs agencies, in the first 10 months of 2025, the number of completely built-up cars of all kinds imported to Vietnam reached 171,364 units, a sharp increase of 20% over the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of 28,558 units. Import-export turnover reached 3.85 billion USD, up 31%, equivalent to an increase of nearly 910 million USD.
In the import structure, cars with 9 seats or less continue to account for the largest proportion with 128,564 units, up 9.5%, equivalent to an increase of 11,121 units over the same period in 2024.
Next were trucks with 22,415 units, a sharp increase of 79.6%, equivalent to an increase of 9,934 units. Other types of cars reached 22,315 units, up 62.6%, equivalent to an increase of 7,819 units over the same period last year.
For cars with more than 9 seats alone, in the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam only imported 70 cars.
Indonesian and Thai cars dominate
Statistics from customs agencies show that completely built-up cars imported to Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2025 are mainly from Indonesia and Thailand, accounting for 72% of the total number of completely built-up cars imported in the country.
Specifically, the number of cars imported from Indonesia reached 64,626 units, an increase of 12% over the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of 6,933 units. Meanwhile, cars imported from Thailand reached 56,862 units, up 4.4%, equivalent to an increase of 2,381 units over the same period in 2024.
The sharp increase in imports of completely built-up cars and components and spare parts in the first 10 months of the year reflects the continued high demand in the domestic market, while also showing a clear recovery in automobile production, assembly and consumption activities in the context of a gradually stabilizing economy.
