According to the Customs Department, although the number of imported cars in October 2025 decreased compared to September, in the first 10 months of 2025, the total accumulated number of completely built-up cars of all kinds imported to Vietnam still reached 171,364 units, an increase of 20% over the same period last year.
Specifically, in October 2025, the number of imported completely built-up cars of all kinds reached 16,343 units, worth 430.8 million USD. This figure is down from September 2025, when Vietnam imported 17,295 units worth 402 million USD.
Three markets account for 90% of imported vehicles
In October 2025, completely built-up cars imported to Vietnam mainly come from three main markets: Indonesia, Thailand and China. Of which, imported cars from Indonesia reached 5,219 units, down 30% compared to the previous month; imported cars from Thailand reached 5,249 units, up 22.7%; imported cars from China reached 4,452 units, up 9.2%.
The total number of imported cars from these three markets reached 14,920 units, down 5.6% compared to the previous month but still accounted for behind behind behind behind the total number of completely built-up cars imported to Vietnam in the month.
Vehicles under 9 seats continue to account for a large proportion
Notably, cars with 9 seats or less continue to account for a large proportion of the import structure. In October 2025, 11,482 cars of this type were imported with a value of nearly 230 million USD, accounting for 70.3% of the total number of imported completely built-up cars.
Compared to last month, the number of imported cars with less than 9 seats decreased by 8.9%, equivalent to a decrease of 1,117 units.
Regarding the locality, the number of cars with less than 9 seats registered for import declarations is mainly at the border gate and port of Hai Phong city with 6,537 units, equivalent to the previous month and in Ho Chi Minh city with 4,945 units, down 18.5%, equivalent to a decrease of 1,123 units compared to September 2025.
Indonesia and Thailand lead in supply
According to the starting market, cars with less than 9 seats imported in October 2025 mainly came from Indonesia with 5,188 units, down 30.4% compared to the previous month and from Thailand with 4,483 units, up 29.9%.
In addition, the number of imported cars from China reached 578, an increase of 39.3%; from Japan reached 284, a sharp decrease of 45.9%; and from Germany reached 111 units, a decrease of 70.9% compared to the previous month.
In total, cars with less than 9 seats imported from these 5 markets reached 10,644, down 12.9% compared to the previous month and accounting for 93% of the total number of cars imported to Vietnam.
In October 2025, no import procedures will arise for cars with more than 9 seats.
For transport vehicles, 2,427 were imported in the month, worth 81.6 million USD, up 6.4% in volume and 23.7% in value compared to the previous month. Of which, cars from China reached 1,656 units, up 16.1%; cars from Thailand reached 750 units, down 7.6%.
Imported transport vehicles registered with declarations mainly in the Lang Son border gate area with 1,192 units, down 3.2%; Ho Chi Minh City with 416 units, down 5.2%; Hai Phong with 274 units, down 34.4%; and Cao Bang with 346 units, up 81.2% compared to the previous month.
According to the Customs Department, reflecting the results of October 2025, accumulated in the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam imported 171,364 completely built-up cars of all kinds, an increase of 20% over the same period last year.
Of which, cars with 9 seats or less reached 128,564 units, up 9.5%; transport cars reached 22,415 units, up sharply by 79.6%.
The total value of imported completely built-up cars in the first 10 months of 2025 reached 3.85 billion USD, up 31% over the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of about 910 million USD.
