The coastal area of Hung Yen province has 5 major river mouths including Thai Binh River, Diem Ho River, Tra Ly, Lan, Ba Lat. These natural conditions have created a wide tidal area, facilitating the development of saltwater and brackish water aquaculture. With that advantage, clam farming has been developed in this area soon, bringing efficiency and stable income to the people.
Nam Cuong commune (Hung Yen province) is a locality with a large area of clam farming in the province, clam farming has helped change the lives of people here. When we had the opportunity to go to Nam Cuong commune, we witnessed the scene of people harvesting clams. Following the boat specializing in harvesting clams of Mr. Nguyen Van Huy's family to the clam beach, after the tide receded, the clam farming tides appeared to be vast.

Mr. Huy shared: "In 2000, my family started raising clams, initially only raising commercial clams, but now I raise additional breeding clams. This job is hard, everything depends on the water. Currently, my family has about 4 hectares of clam farming, with a release density of 7 million fry/ha. clam prices depend on each time and the type of clam will have different prices, some ranging from 9,000 - 30,000 VND/kg".

Also stabilizing the economy thanks to clam farming and exploitation of aquatic and seafood, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (Dong Thai Ninh commune) said that her family has been raising clams for nearly 20 years. Her family's clam farming area is about 3 hectares, clams eat alluvium on the land, the farmers do not have to pay for food, so if it is convenient, the harvest will be more profitable than the capital spent.
According to long-time clam fishermen, to successfully commercial clam farming, in addition to weather factors, they must have technique, know how to calculate the size and time of releasing clam seeds appropriately. Since then, fishermen in coastal communes of Hung Yen province have been gradually developing the breeding of clams.
To ensure productivity and economic value, minimizing damage to farmers and seed clams, right from the beginning of the crop, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has focused on instructing people on safe clam farming methods during the hot season. In addition to recommendations on preparing farms, selecting breeds, releasing breeds... specialized agencies also strengthen environmental monitoring and warning to help people proactively take measures to care for and protect clams.

Talking to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Bui Thanh Lich - Chairman of Nam Cuong Commune People's Committee said that the total area of clam farming in the commune is nearly 2,000 hectares. This is one of the economic development occupations, helping people in coastal communes stabilize their lives for many years. During the recent storm No. 3, although the tidal water rose, fortunately the people's clam farming area was not affected.
In addition, local authorities also have training sessions and instructions for people; regularly make recommendations on weather conditions that directly affect clams and at times help connect people about product output.
