The press agency has raised the issue of local people being upset about the situation of many garbage trucks in Thoi Nhut - An Khanh residential area every morning, running through An Khanh market (Tan An ward), causing an unpleasant smell and losing the urban beauty.
In particular, this is an area with a large number of people buying and selling and students going to school. Therefore, it is necessary to consider adjusting the time for garbage trucks to move appropriately, avoiding the time when students go to school and the market area is crowded.

Regarding this issue, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City Ngo Thai Chan informed that in recent times, in order to minimize negative impacts on the environment, landscape and people's lives, the issue of collecting and transporting household waste to gathering points in the area has been of concern to the city.
The garbage collection point in the Thoi Nhut - An Khanh residential area has been arranged by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ninh Kieu District (old) in this area for Do Duy Company Limited to temporarily collect garbage. During its operation, the gathering point has been regularly inspected by management agencies, reminding them to carry out the work of covering, collecting and treating leachate, and strengthening cleaning and deodorization to minimize environmental pollution.
Notably, in the first 6 months of 2025, the authorities organized an inspection of the compliance with the law of Do Duy Company Limited at the garbage collection and transit point in Thoi Nhut residential area. Accordingly, this unit has taken measures to overcome the pollution situation and change the time of transportation and collection of waste, such as covering the area of the permitted garbage collection area; collecting and treating leachate.
Along with that is the focus on collecting garbage in areas near the collection point (to limit long travel routes for areas far from the collection point) to promptly bring to the treatment plant, reduce the amount of concentrated garbage at the collection point; clean the collection vehicles; rearrange the collection and transit time appropriately, avoid peak hours; continue to deodorize, improve environmental sanitation to minimize the impact on surrounding people.

Lao Dong Newspaper has just published a series of articles reflecting on the situation of garbage spreading from the streets, to hospitals and schools in Can Tho. In fact, in key areas of the city such as tourist attractions, tourism, schools, hospitals, etc., garbage is rampant, directly affecting the health of local people and urban aesthetics.
According to experts, the immediate solution is that Can Tho City needs to have strict regulations on leaving garbage at the right time and place, followed by eliminating the mentality of being hesitant and reserved when punishing. Regarding long-term solutions, it is necessary to build a comprehensive strategy, in which one is not afraid to handle responsibility if individuals and groups do not complete the assigned tasks.
