Recently, there was information about Vietnam Oil and Gas Low Pressure Distribution Joint Stock Company (PV GAS D) announcing that it will stop supplying gas to Southern Petroleum Trading Joint Stock Company (KMN) from January 1, 2026. KMN believes that this could put nearly 500 public buses in Ho Chi Minh City using CNG at risk of having to stop operations.
Regarding this information, PV GAS D has provided official information. According to PV GAS D, in the face of the fact that domestic gas resources are naturally depleted, gas supply is carried out according to the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Every year, natural gas is prioritized for electricity production to ensure national energy security, and if necessary, gas production can be adjusted for other consumers.
To proactively increase supply, the unit has supplemented imported gas, completed the natural gas supply chain via pipelines, waterways, roads and railways, aiming to provide integrated energy solutions nationwide.
PV GAS D affirms that it always ensures adequate supply of natural gas to all customers in accordance with legal regulations, in accordance with the needs of all parties and complies with the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on prioritizing gas supply for electricity production. The company said it is always ready to meet the demand for imported gas to ensure customers' production and business activities run safely and continuously.
Since 2024, the company has deployed an optimal energy solution package according to an integrated business model, providing a variety of products such as natural gas (NG/low pressure air), CNG, LNG, LPG. These products can flexibly replace each other, helping customers expand their choice of stable, high-quality supply. PV GAS D reaffirms its commitment to fully meet all gas needs of consumers.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - Deputy Head of the Energy Management Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade - said that the city currently has 3 CNG gas filling stations for public transport, including 2 stations of Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company and 1 station of CNG Vietnam Joint Stock Company. These stations are serving 510 buses using CNG on 18 subsidized routes.
In addition, some businesses are also using CNG gas for production, mainly purchasing from PV GAS D. Up to now, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City has not received reports from businesses with CNG charging stations about PV GAS D planning to stop supplying gas from January 1, 2026. The Department has issued a document requesting the KMN to report on the operation of CNG filling stations for public buses.
