Recovering strongly after many difficulties
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the export value of vegetables and fruits in November 2025 is estimated at 850 million USD, bringing the total export value of vegetables and fruits in the first 11 months of 2025 to 7.91 billion USD, an increase of 19.5% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's fruits and vegetables are mainly exported to the Chinese market with an export value of 64.1%. The next two major fruit and vegetable export markets are the United States and South Korea with export value ratios of 6.4% and 3.7%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the export value of vegetables and fruits in the first 10 months of 2025 to the Chinese market increased by 10.4%, the US market increased by 58.3% and the strongest increase was in the Malaysian market with an increase of 77.5%.
According to General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association Dang Phuc Nguyen, in the first 6 months of the year, the industry faced great pressure from testing banned substances and residues on exports, causing turnover to decrease by 20-30% compared to the same period in 2024. However, thanks to the strong direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the industry has overcome its weaknesses in quality and recovered. In particular, durian continues to be a major product, with the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Customs Department of China to remove technical obstacles and promote exports.
Vietnam's vegetables and fruits also took advantage of the difficulties of major exporting countries due to epidemics, bad weather and logistics disruptions, quickly filling market share gaps in Asian countries, especially China. The challenge of raising technical barriers is an opportunity for the industry to restructure production processes and improve quality.
Aiming to expand the market in the coming time
Entering 2026, the fruit and vegetable industry faces many challenges in both domestic production and export activities. Some key tasks implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment have a direct impact on the vegetable and fruit industry. In particular, emphasizing promoting sector restructuring associated with the development of ecological agriculture, green economy, circular economy, climate change adaptation; improving productivity, quality, added value and efficiency of agricultural, forestry and fishery production and trading.
Along with that, market expansion continues to be prioritized. This is an important orientation for vegetable and fruit groups in the context of many large markets strengthening food safety control and technical requirements.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, it will be proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continue to coordinate to expand negotiations, moving towards signing new FTAs, especially in markets with high demand for tropical products. After the secretary's decree dated November 27, granting "visas" for Vietnamese fresh jackfruit to join the Chinese market, he hoped the industry would have more Protocols for grapefruit, avocado, passion fruit and some other potential fruits.
Regarding the direction in 2026, Mr. Nguyen proposed that the industry promote deep processing. When products are standardized, processed and preserved well, businesses can reduce their dependence on the crop season, avoid damage caused by natural disasters and improve their ability to meet international standards. This is also an effective way to overcome technical barriers, reduce logistics costs and extend storage time, thereby increasing export value.
If we can do it, we can not only reach the Chinese market, but also reach Northeast Asian or Middle Eastern countries. Thus, it is certain that in the future, export turnover will not stop at 7.91 billion USD", Mr. Nguyen emphasized.
