With meaningful activities towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US, Minister Do Duc Duy believes that the cooperation between the two sides will continue to achieve new successes.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Information Portal, Ambassador Marc Knapper affirmed that the United States always accompanies Vietnam's sustainable development, always having a voice in important areas such as climate change, natural resource management and sustainable fisheries.
He expressed his desire to continue cooperating with the Vietnamese Government, promoting agricultural development and environmental protection, contributing to strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to Ambassador Knapper, the issue of balancing two-way agricultural trade is a focus of President Donald Trump's concern. The Ambassador expressed that the US hopes that Vietnam will open the market to be able to compete more fairly in Vietnam's developing market.
With a solid foundation for cooperation, two-way agricultural trade is no longer a big problem between the two sides. Most importantly, the two countries' key agricultural products are complementary and not competitive with each other, so we are very willing to open the door for US agricultural products. These are decisions that are beneficial to both countries, Minister Do Duc Duy affirmed.

To date, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has licensed 60/61 genetically modified food sources, mainly corn and soybeans for animal feed. In 2024, Vietnam imported nearly 1.5 billion USD of corn, soybeans and animal feed materials from the US.
Regarding opening the market for agricultural products and tangerines, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has drafted import conditions expected to be completed in March 2025, creating a premise to open the market for American tangerines in the upcoming harvest.
For plums and lemons, Vietnam is allocating more resources to simultaneously license both products. The draft Pests and Disease Risk Analysis (PRA) report will be submitted in April and May 2025.
Listening to the Minister's sharing, the US Ambassador thanked the Vietnamese Government for all efforts and enthusiasm in promoting two-way trade.
In addition, US Ambassador Marc Knapper said that enforcing the law of the sea, preventing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing is an issue that has received attention from President Trump; the US side wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in this field.
