In the trading session on October 20, the VN-Index fell to a record of 94.76 points, equivalent to a decrease of 5.47%, down to 1,636.43 points. This is the strongest decrease since the beginning of the year, causing the market to sink into red with 655 stocks down, including 148 stocks that have decreased in price.
The trading session "inflated" more than VND 412,300 billion (about 16 billion USD) of HoSE's capitalization, VND 19,500 billion of HNX's and VND 29,650 billion on the UpCOM exchange. In total, the total market capitalization is about 442,000 billion VND.
In this "storm", the assets of Vietnamese USD billionaires have also fluctuated strongly.
The update from Forbes shows that billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong's assets have decreased by 728 million USD (equivalent to about 18,000 billion VND), to 18.3 billion USD, causing him to drop to 132nd place in the list of billionaires in the world.
Three other Vietnamese USD billionaires, Mr. Tran Dinh Long - Chairman of Hoa Phat, Mr. Ho Hung Anh - Chairman of Techcombank, and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang - Chairman of Masan - also witnessed a sharp decrease in assets when HPG, TCB and MSN stocks simultaneously decreased in floor space in the session.
Of which, Mr. Tran Dinh Long's assets decreased by about VND3,900 billion, Mr. Ho Hung Anh decreased by VND2,100 billion and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang decreased by VND1,900 billion.
In the group of Vietnamese billionaires, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - Chairman of Vietjet Air - was the one who reduced assets at least in this "red hot" session, with a decrease of about 400 billion VND (1%). VJC shares decreased by less than 0.3%, while HDBank's HDB decreased the floor. According to Forbes, Ms. Thao's total assets decreased by about 68 million USD after the trading session on October 20.
In today's trading session (October 21), after a few minutes of continuous decline, bottom-fishing demand has entered the game, helping the VN-Index reverse and increase sharply. Foreign investors returned to net buy more than VND 2,300 billion on the HoSE. This move partly helps to relieve negative psychology, encouraging domestic investors to increase purchases in the second half of the afternoon session. The market gradually regained its green color and increased by 27 points (1.65%) at the end of the session, to 1,663 points.
The assets of Vietnamese billionaires also quickly reflected the market's recovery momentum. As of 4:00 p.m. on October 21 (Vietnam time), Forbes updated Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong's assets to increase again to 19 billion USD, ranking 129th in the world, although still down 48 million USD compared to the previous session.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - Chairman of Vietjet Air recorded a strong increase, reaching 4.3 billion USD, an increase of 77 million USD (1.84%).
Mr. Tran Dinh Long has assets of 2.7 billion USD, down 122 million USD (4.35%), while Mr. Ho Hung Anh owns 2.5 billion USD, down 261 million USD (9.5%). Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang currently has 1.1 billion USD, down 143 million USD compared to before.
