Import-export turnover maintains strong growth momentum
According to the Customs Department, the total import-export value of goods in July 2025 reached 82.29 billion USD, an increase of 8% over the previous month. Of which, exports reached 42.29 billion USD, up 7%, imports reached 40 billion USD, up 9.1%. The trade surplus reached 2.29 billion USD, down 20% compared to the surplus of 2.86 billion USD in June.
Accumulated in the first 7 months of the year, total import-export turnover reached 514.72 billion USD, up 16.3% over the same period in 2024. Exports reached 262.46 billion USD (up 14.8%), imports reached 252.26 billion USD (up 17.9%). The trade balance had a surplus of 10.2 billion USD, down more than 30% compared to a surplus of 14.64 billion USD in the same period last year.
Total budget revenue from import-export activities in July reached VND38,121 billion, down 2.7% compared to June. From the beginning of the year to the end of July, the revenue reached VND 261,376 billion, equal to 63.6% of the estimate and increasing by 9.1% over the same period in 2024.
Increased violations on both sea and road routes
In July, the Customs force detected and handled 1,790 violations, an increase of 11.7% over the same period in 2024, with the total value of violated goods of about VND1,481 billion. The budget revenue from handling violations reached 76.53 billion VND. There were 2 cases prosecuted, 14 cases transferred to other agencies for prosecution.
The sea route continues to account for the largest proportion with 899 cases, equivalent to 50.2% of the total number of detected cases. The violating goods are mainly concentrated in ports such as Dinh Vu, Cat Lai, Cai Mep, VIP Green, Tan Vu... Some groups of goods are illegally transported on large scale including diesel, cosmetics, food, coal, breeds, seafood, poultry... Notably, the authorities discovered many export shipments with signs of counterfeiting Vietnamese origin such as garlic, electric welding mines, folding chairs for export to the US.
The road was detected with 669 violations, accounting for 37%. The subjects take advantage of policies to facilitate border residents and import-export activities to transport smuggled goods, banned goods, foreign currency, mobile phones, firecrackers, etc. The incidents mainly occur at the border between Vietnam - China, Vietnam - Cambodia and Vietnam - Laos.
From December 15, 2024 to July 14, 2025, the entire Customs sector detected and handled 10,351 violations, the value of goods is estimated at VND 15,095 billion, the budget revenue is about VND 537.88 billion. Of which, 10 cases were prosecuted and 68 cases were transferred to competent authorities for handling.
In July 2025, the Customs force presided over and coordinated the arrest of 22 cases with 28 subjects related to drugs, of which the unit presided over 11 cases. The seized evidence included about 100 kg of various drugs, including: 32.9 kg of marijuana, 2.34 kg of heroin, 29 kg of ketamine, 36.3 kg and 4 synthetic drug pills, along with more than 8 grams of other drugs.
From December 15, 2024 to July 14, 2025, the whole industry detected 125 cases/152 subjects, of which the Customs chaired 54 cases. The total amount of drugs seized amounted to more than 2.1 tons, including ketamine (1,5 500 kg), marijuana (155 kg), heroin (35 kg), cocaine (1.86 kg), along with hundreds of kg and tens of thousands of other synthetic drug pills.
