Speaking at the conference, Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee - said that today's Japan - Mekong Delta meeting was held in a special context, when localities across the country, including Can Tho City, have completed the arrangement of the apparatus and administrative units and are effectively operating the two-level local government.


In the context of Can Tho entering a new stage of development, the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee stated that the city is striving to create a breakthrough, attract effective investment, and shape a modern and sustainable development ecosystem.
The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee said that this conference is very important, not only an opportunity for us to look back on the cooperation achievements between Japan and the Mekong Delta in recent times, but also a valuable opportunity to shape and create new directions together, contributing to fostering, expanding and deepening the Vietnam - Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.

The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee believes that with the spirit of cooperation, mutual understanding and jointly aiming for prosperous development, the Japan - Mekong Delta Conference will be a great success, opening up great opportunities for cooperation and development between the two sides.

The conference aims to implement the contents agreed upon by senior leaders of Vietnam - Japan in the Joint Statement on upgrading bilateral relations (November 2023), the People's Committee of Can Tho City in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO) to organize the Japan - Mekong Delta Meeting Conference.
The conference was attended by about 300 delegates, including about 150 delegates from Japanese organizations and enterprises.

The focus of the conference was a plenary discussion session on strengthening cooperation and connectivity between localities in the Mekong Delta with Japan, focusing on the fields of infrastructure development, energy, high technology, agriculture, labor, tourism, etc.
In addition, the conference also has a bilateral meeting and business connection program between stakeholders; an exhibition and introduction program of Can Tho City's products.
This is the first important foreign event of Can Tho City after implementing the merger of administrative boundaries and implementing the two-level local government model, promising to open up many opportunities for cooperation, practical and effective connections between localities in the Mekong Delta and Japan in the coming time.
