On the afternoon of April 18, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a meeting and working session with representatives of SK Group (Korea) to discuss cooperation opportunities in the fields of clean energy, high technology and innovation in Vietnam.
At the meeting, SK Group (SK) informed about the results of the activities of the SK Working Group - a unit coordinating with the Ministry of Planning and Investment (now the Ministry of Finance) in supporting the implementation of large-scale LNG projects.
SK Group proposed to build integrated industrial development centers in Vietnam, including: Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Center in the North Central region, based on Nghi Son - Quynh Lap LNG projects; hydrogen, logistics and innovation center in the South Central region associated with Ca Na LNG project; Environmentally friendly agricultural center in the Mekong Delta, associated with Ca Mau LNG project.
In addition, SK expressed its desire to cooperate in developing LNG power plants in Vietnam, especially in localities such as Nghe An and Thanh Hoa. The Group affirms its long-term commitment to investing in the fields of high technology, renewable energy and environmental friendliness.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated SK's contribution to Vietnam and affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always accompanies international investors, including SK.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to create favorable conditions for SK to participate in LNG projects without investors, while encouraging the group to promote technology transfer and support Vietnamese enterprises to participate deeply in the global value chain.
In the context that Vietnam approved the revised Power Plan VIII on April 15, 2025, the development of LNG and renewable energy sources is a top priority to ensure energy security and the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
SK is the second largest multi-industry corporation in Korea, owning about 200 subsidiaries and having invested more than 3.5 billion USD in Vietnam. The focus areas include clean energy (LNG, hydrogen), pharmaceutical - healthcare, logistics and information technology.
