Gardeners are busy setting early quotas
An Hai ward is known as the ornamental kumquat capital in the East of Hai Phong City with hundreds of households growing ornamental kumquats, concentrated in Minh Kha residential group.
Ms. Do Thi Dung's Trong Dung garden has 100 ornamental kumquat trees. Thanks to favorable weather, all 100 trees are growing steadily and beautifully, each fruit is shiny, with lush green leaves. Most of the trees in the garden have hung signs with the names of customers who ordered. "Since the New Year, the garden has welcomed visitors to visit and choose trees. Up to now, more than 80 trees have been ordered, some customers have deposited, some customers have transferred all the money" - Ms. Dung excitedly said.

Also according to Ms. Dung, ornamental kumquats are available in many places, but ornamental kumquats in Minh Kha are still popular because of their high durability. Compared to the Tet crop last year affected by storm No. 3, Ms. Dung's garden was almost completely lost, but this year kumquats have a bumper crop and good prices. The price of Ms. Dung's and her husband's kumquat garden ranges from 800,000 - 3,000,000 VND/tree. Excluding expenses, the garden earns about 150-200 million VND for this Tet crop - Ms. Dung shared.
Just after receiving the group of visitors to visit the kumquat garden, Ms. Bui Thi Tam (Minh Kha residential group) took the opportunity to water the trees. Ms. Tam's household is one of the households with a large area of ornamental kumquats in Minh Kha. If last Tet crop, Ms. Tam's family had 2/5 of the kumquat fields completely lost, this Tet crop, her family has about 300 trees that are eligible for sale. "Prices are still the same as every year, but this year the quality of kumquats is much better, the fruit is large, bright, the trees have green fruit, ripe fruit, fragrant flowers, every customer praises them. In addition to my garden, the surrounding gardens have also had customers come to order, "saving" last Tet crop" - Ms. Tam shared.

Developing the Minh Kha ornamental kumquat brand
Although many customers have finalized applications and deposits early, garden owners still maintain daily care of kumquats meticulously, to ensure that the trees reach customers always beautiful and most durable. Ms. Do Thi Dung said that every day she and her husband regularly water and fertilize the trees. According to Mr. Trong, Ms. Dung's husband, right from the beginning of December, customers have arranged to plant trees early for Tet. In addition, the garden also guides customers on how to water and care for them appropriately so that the trees flower and bear beautiful fruit. In case after Tet people do not have the conditions to continue caring, the garden will support nurturing trees for the next crops.

Mr. Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of An Hai ward, said that Minh Khoa flower and ornamental plant craft village in Minh Kha residential group has more than 50 hectares of ornamental kumquat trees. The quality of ornamental kumquat trees this year is better than in previous years due to favorable weather. Tet kumquat prices are also stable, higher than last year but not significantly. For many weeks now, kumquat growing households have had customers come to order, and people are also excited because of the Tet kumquat season.

Also according to Mr. Hung, households in Minh Kha all have decades of experience in growing ornamental kumquats, so they quickly recovered from the impact of storms and floods. The locality also coordinated with the City Agricultural Extension Center to support people with techniques and fertilization procedures...
From February 1st to February 15th, the ward will also organize the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026 spring flower market for individuals, production households, and gardeners trading in flowers and ornamental plants (peach blossoms, ornamental kumquats...) to participate in displaying and selling goods, serving the shopping needs of the people as well as promoting typical and unique products of the locality.
