Dak Lak - Although there are many advantages, the added value and image of the Vietnamese Robusta coffee brand are not commensurate with the existing potential.

On November 15, in Dak Lak province, the Vietnam Cocoa Coffee Association (VICOFA) in collaboration with the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the World Special Consumption Coffee Association (SCA) and Simexco Dak Lak Company organized a seminar: "Solutions to promote and develop the Vietnamese Robusta coffee brand and orient the development of Vietnamese specialty coffee".

Mr. Nguyen Thien Van - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee said: "Over the years, the province has always been a pioneer in implementing programs to develop high-quality coffee, sustainably replant and enhance the value of the supply chain".

According to Mr. Van, Dak Lak has organized the first specialty coffee competition in Vietnam. After 7 seasons, many award-winning products continue to participate and achieve high results in international competitions, contributing to promoting the quality of Vietnamese coffee.

Dak Lak province is committed to accompanying all parties in developing the specialty coffee value chain. With global knowledge connection from SCA and VICOFA's leading role, we believe that Vietnam will become a destination for Robusta lovers around the world.

The Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand will become a national brand for Vietnamese specialty coffee, Mr. Van emphasized.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai - Chairman of VICOFA - said that Vietnam has about 730,000 hectares of coffee. Of which, 95% of the robusta growing area. With suitable soil and climate conditions, Vietnamese coffee has a difference in quality compared to many other countries.

Vietnam's total annual coffee output reaches 1.8 to 2 million tons, ranking 2nd in the world (accounting for about 18% globally). Vietnamese coffee is mainly used for export, about 1.5 million tons, equivalent to 18% of total world coffee exports and 43% of global robusta.

Although there are many advantages, the added value and image of the Vietnamese Robusta coffee brand are not commensurate with the existing potential, Mr. Hai affirmed.

On this occasion, Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep - Vice President of VICOFA - suggested that SCA support the development of national standards for Vietnamese specialty robusta. At the same time, coordinate the implementation of specialized robusta expert training programs in key regions and support international communication and promotion.

We believe that Vietnamese specialty robusta has full potential to become a new symbol of world coffee, linking product quality with responsibility and cultural story, Mr. Hiep emphasized.

The province has issued a project to build Buon Ma Thuot into a "World Coffee City", offering many preferential policies on taxes and land use fees to attract investors.
