At this time, the atmosphere of Tet flower production in the provinces and cities of the West is gradually becoming more vibrant. Traders are coming to flower villages to increase the number of purchases.
According to many gardeners, the price of Tet flowers this year has increased by 20-30% compared to last year. In particular, traditional apricot flowers and ornamental plants are being sought after. The reason is that the impact of previous storms has reduced the supply and quality of flowers.
Previously, Tran Thi Kim Lien garden house (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) received a deposit from traders for 2,000 flower pots of various kinds, recently the number of deposits increased by 1,000 pots.
"The unusual weather has reduced the number of flowers planted, and unseasonal rains have made flower care difficult, so flower prices have increased. The number of flower poles transported to the North is greater than last year, perhaps due to the impact of the recent storm No. 3," said Ms. Lien.
According to Ms. Lien, this flower crop she mainly grows short-term varieties that are suitable for customers' budgets such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, peonies... The cost of care and fertilizer is also lower than that of ornamental plants.
Owning more than 40 apricot trees, Mr. Tran Van Man (Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province) is excited when the number of traders looking to buy and deposit has improved somewhat.
Currently, more than 40 of Mr. Man's apricot trees are priced from 3 to 80 million VND, depending on size and shape. Traders have placed deposits to purchase at an average price of 3 to 10 million VND, a 15% increase in purchasing power compared to last year. For the high-value apricot trees, Mr. Man will display and sell them during Tet.
"Rain and cold weather make it difficult to take care of apricot blossoms this year, and the cost of materials has also increased, so my input costs are also high. Hopefully by Tet, the weather will be stable and there will be many customers to bring back profits," said Mr. Man.
According to the reporter's records, the price of chrysanthemums has increased from 10,000 - 15,000 VND/pair, currently fluctuating from 180,000 - 190,000 VND/pair. Other types of flowers such as marigolds and carnations have also increased from 5,000 - 10,000 VND/pot compared to the same period last year.
To supply ornamental flowers for the Lunar New Year 2025, according to the plan, Chau Thanh A district, Hau Giang province plans to plant 217,250 pots of various flowers. Of which, there are 183,750 pots of marigolds, 17,400 pots of various chrysanthemums, etc.
According to information from the Binh Thuy District Agricultural Extension Station (Can Tho City), the number of ornamental flowers planted in the 2025 Tet crop is expected to reach over 200,000 baskets. The consumption of Tet flowers this year may increase by 5-8% compared to 2024.
In order to facilitate connections between traders, gardeners and ornamental flower producers, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has agreed in principle to assign the Department of Industry and Trade to organize the Tet flower market of At Ty year 2025. It is expected to be held from January 18 to 28, 2025 at Tay Do Square - Can Tho.
It is expected that there will be over 200 lots and stalls displaying and trading ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, and bonsai of gardeners, farmers, and small traders in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta provinces.
