Big data collection for policy making
On January 7, 2026, the launching ceremony of the 2026 Economic Census was held in Hai Phong city. The 2026 Economic Census is a large-scale, wide-ranging statistical survey, with diverse subjects, organized according to the Prime Minister's Decision, to collect comprehensive information about businesses, individual business households, public service units, associations and religious and belief establishments nationwide.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Director of the Statistics Department Nguyen Thi Huong said that the 2026 Economic Census is being implemented in the context of the country promoting digital transformation, innovating the growth model and improving the competitiveness of the economy.

According to the Director of the Statistics Office, the demand for high-quality data by industry, by region and by type of ownership is becoming increasingly important, directly serving the planning of socio-economic development policies of the Government, ministries, branches and local authorities.
The 2026 Economic Census has strengthened the application of technology in information collection; promoted administrative data exploitation; simultaneously deployed forms of collection through CAPI and Webform electronic survey forms; improved the efficiency of survey management, towards building a modern, transparent and integrated statistical system" - Ms. Huong informed.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Trung Kien - Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee said that for Hai Phong, the 2026 Economic Census is not only a purely statistical task but also an important political task, contributing to helping the city have a full and objective view of the economic structure, production scale, competitiveness, level of digital transformation and distribution of economic bases in the area.
Mr. Le Trung Kien requested the Steering Committees of the General Investigation at all levels to continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, closely follow the approved plans and plans; strengthen direction, inspection, and supervision, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles arising during the implementation process. Departments, agencies, branches, and local authorities closely coordinate with statistical agencies, creating the most favorable conditions for the investigation force to complete the assigned tasks.

For investigators and supervisors, I hope you comrades will uphold the spirit of responsibility, conduct investigations in accordance with procedures, objectively, truthfully, and ensure complete and accurate information collection according to regulations. We request businesses, business households, public service units, associations, and religious and belief establishments in the city to actively coordinate and provide complete, timely, and accurate information to the investigating force" - Mr. Kien emphasized.
Clearly aware of the meaning and importance of the General Investigation, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Viet - Vice Chairman of Hong Bang Ward People's Committee (Hai Phong City) said that in the past time, the ward's propaganda work has been deployed to residential groups; the coordination with relevant units in reviewing and compiling inventories of economic establishments in the area has been seriously implemented; investigators and team leaders have been selected, trained and ready to perform tasks.
