On August 8, the Economic - Budget Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council (HDND) coordinated with the Department of Tourism to organize a conference on policies and solutions to create momentum for tourism development in the new period
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism reported on the results achieved by the Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry in recent times. Among them, there are challenges and problems such as: management and synchronization after the merger; updating administrative boundaries; unifying quality, human resources, services... Traffic infrastructure is still a challenge that needs better investment in the coming time.
The Department of Tourism has developed 5 groups of policies to facilitate the development of the tourism industry. In particular, the group of policies to attract tourists will develop plans to support groups of 200 guests, staying from 3 nights with many incentives such as: ticket prices for destinations reduced; support for renting meeting halls; support for art performances; souvenirs...
"With a group of about 1,000 guests, the support cost is only about 51 million VND, but the budget is likely to collect about 1.7 billion VND through the accommodation and spending activities of this group of guests," Ms. Hoa gave an example.
Or groups of policies to attract investment in tourism development, investors can be supported with 50-100% loan interest rate for each type of tourism development investment project. Thereby, encouraging investment and attracting strategic investors.
And the group of policies to encourage the development of community tourism; the group of policies to train and improve the quality of human resources; the group of policies to encourage the development of green tourism, towards Netzero with incentives for units using 3R technology (saving - reusing - recycling)...
There needs to be an international passenger port, connecting traffic to 2 airports
Mr. Phan Xuan Anh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Tourism Company - emphasized the opinion that Ho Chi Minh City needs to invest in a seaport to welcome international visitors. This is something that Ho Chi Minh City does not have, while other localities have.
" international passenger port will create a huge source of revenue in many aspects for Ho Chi Minh City, promoting strong development of international tourism," said Mr. Phan Xuan Anh.
Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City needs to allocate funds to invest in developing international passenger port. Or have policies for businesses to lease land and water surface for investment; have policies to attract investors.
Mr. Phan Buu Toan - Vice Principal of the College of Tourism said that the Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry needs to have a specific project on human resource development, focusing on the remaining industries. In addition, tourism capacity is also needed for ward and commune officials managing tourism, and also freelance workers participating in providing services to tourists.
"Enterprises need to accompany in developing human resources, not just wait for trained human resources to recruit," said Mr. Toan.
Mr. Nguyen Ha Trung - Deputy General Director of Vietravel - expressed his opinion that in the immediate future, it is necessary to have a solution to quickly connect traffic between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports. This is a prerequisite for Ho Chi Minh City to promote its role as a national tourism locomotive, strengthen regional linkages and elevate its position on the international tourism map.
In addition, Mr. Trung also proposed solutions and recommendations to develop tourism products with the identity of Ho Chi Minh City; soon issue the Expanded Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Development Plan for the period 2026-2035, with a vision to 2045 with connectivity and clearly positioning each functional area, as a foundation for travel businesses to build products.
The conference also received many comments from delegates and experts as an important basis for Ho Chi Minh City to research, develop and propose the issuance of strategic policies, creating motivation to promote sustainable tourism development, actively contributing to economic growth and improving the quality of life of the people.
