Information from Nguyen Giap commune, the whole commune currently has about more than 10 hectares of natural sandworm exploitation outside the dike and in the fields. This year, due to the impact of storms and floods, sandworm areas in the area are harvested 1 month later than in previous years.
However, sandworms yield 15 - 20% higher than last year, sandworm quality is delicious. Farmers harvest from 70 - 80 kg of sandworms/sao, with a selling price of 180,000 - 250,000 VND/kg. With the above selling price, farmers earn a profit of 12 - 15 million VND/sao, 7 - 8 times higher than rice cultivation.
In addition to selling fresh ruoi to consumers for immediate use, farmers in the commune also process many products from ruoi such as ruoi spring rolls, ruoi fish sauce... to serve customer consumption needs, while developing organic agriculture and ecological agricultural tourism. For many years, farmers in the commune have had techniques in improving ruoi exploitation, bringing high income to families.
It is expected that after this ruoi water, farmers in the commune will harvest more ruoi water again on the occasion of December 27th of the lunar calendar.
