Quang Ninh currently has about 600ha of flower and ornamental plant growing area, mainly concentrated in Hoanh Bo, Dong Trieu and Quang Yen areas. In which, Dong Che flower village is one of the largest flower growing areas in the province, with an area of nearly 100ha, with about 15 million flower plants of all kinds.

In the days leading up to the 2026 Lunar New Year, Dong Che flower growing village enters a peak production period. The atmosphere of labor and trading is bustling, and gardeners are urgently taking care of and harvesting to promptly supply the Tet market.

Apricot blossoms, chrysanthemums and lilies are the most consumed flowers during this occasion, mainly serving the needs of arranging flowers on the full moon day and decorating during Tet days. In the high-end segment, orchids continue to be favored by the market.

Many gardeners have prepared orchid pots and hanging orchids with diverse designs and colors.
Mr. Phung Van Dung (62 years old), owner of an orchid garden in Troi 5 area, Hoanh Bo ward, said that the demand for orchids this year is still high, many customers buy early to decorate their houses and as Tet gifts.
According to Mr. Dung, this year has a leap month, which changes the growth schedule of many types of flowers. If applying the care schedule according to the habits of non-leap years such as fertilizing, breaking leaves, peeling leaves, flowers may bloom early before Tet. Therefore, flower growers must closely monitor weather developments, regulate growth by technical measures such as adjusting fertilizer, water, lighting, and lighting lights to restrain or encourage flowers to bloom at the right time.

“This year's weather is generally favorable, with few prolonged heavy rains, no severe cold or frost, so flower plants grow well. However, during this period, the weather is erratic, with hot sunny days and deep cold days. If not adjusted in time, flowers may bloom early. For flowers grown in net houses, closed houses such as orchids, hanging ornamental plants, care is more convenient because they are less affected by the weather,” Mr. Dung said.

At this time, many customers from neighboring localities have come to visit and order flowers early to have more choices and reasonable prices.
Hoanh Bo Ward People's Committee has arranged forces to ensure security and order, traffic safety and environmental sanitation in flower growing areas during the peak period before Tet.
On January 16, 2026, Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 213/QD-UBND approving the Project on developing traditional craft villages into cultural and tourism products in the period 2026–2030, which includes Dong Che flower growing craft villages.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong (70 years old), a resident of Troi 5 area, Hoanh Bo ward, said that this project is the expectation of more than 45 flower-growing households in the area. In addition to production and improving product quality, households want to implement experiential tourism, contributing to preserving and promoting the traditional flower growing profession.
