Returning to Tan Loc island commune, watching farmers maintain "breath" in the middle of the river

Can Tho - Although isolated in the middle of the Hau River, in Tan Loc island commune there are still inspiring stories of gardeners.

Living with affection

Tan Loc ward is considered a commune-level administrative unit with specific characteristics and difficulty in organizing traffic to connect with other adjacent administrative units of Can Tho and other localities in the Mekong Delta. However, overcoming the bumpy water waves, the most deeply lingering thing in the heart of anyone who has ever visited Tan Loc is the warmth and harmony of the people.

According to the sharing of many middle-aged people, people have long formed a self-sufficient lifestyle. Mr. Le Van Tam (Tan Loc ward) expressed: "Brothers and sisters on the island love each other, if there is anything, they go back and forth, affectionately help. Trading and exchanging just agree to be reasonable to please both sides".

Having the opportunity to visit Mr. Nguyen Van Long's house, we truly admired that rustic trading style. Usually, every time we prepare for holidays and Tet, people come to him to order flowers to display. After finalizing the number of customers who order and planting reserves, Mr. Long meticulously takes care of them to supply them. The special thing is that he also carefully writes the buyer's name and puts it in a small nylon bag to hang on the tree trunk, avoiding confusion.

I am happy but not tired, I can show off my talent in planting and pruning, and also help people have satisfactory flower pots without having to go anywhere far" - Mr. Long confided.

Ms. Dao Thi Phuong (Tan Loc ward) shared: "Buying here I am very reassured, flowers are carefully cared for, so they are much more durable and beautiful than going to the market to buy from traders and then having to laboriously transport them across the ferry".

Business thinking

Going a little further is enough to enter Tan Loc coconut garden. Here, the image that makes us admire is the owner, Ms. Doan Thi Kieu Diem, quickly climbing on the towering coconut trees with a unique set of tools.

In the sun of the South, this woman has proven: no job is exclusive to men, once diligence and creativity go hand in hand, women can also do it.

Ms. Diem told us that when she was a child, seeing her father picking coconuts, she was also curious to pick them, gradually learning to climb and getting used to them, but mainly in low-lying trees. Growing up, passing the bachelor's exam, she still chose to put aside her career because she saw the development potential in her hometown. Later, to serve tourists quickly and create more curiosity, she found and bought a set of tools online and practiced climbing, gradually getting used to it without realizing it.

As a woman climbing coconut trees, I still have a certain charm, I want to prove that we are not weak, women can do anything" - Ms. Diem.

It is known that in the garden there are many ditches interspersed between coconut groves for tourists to experience rowing boats and enjoy the fresh air of the islet on the Hau River bank. On weekdays, the coconut garden has dozens of tourists visiting, especially on weekends, the number is much larger.

On August 7, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen signed a Decision on recognizing Tan Loc ward as an island commune. This is of great significance in creating a basis for the locality to enjoy preferential policies according to state regulations, contributing to promoting local development in the new period.

In fact, the administrative unit of Tan Loc ward has many specific elements that need to be preserved, maintained and oriented for development such as: the process of reclamation, living and settling of local people, historical traditions, production and business practices...
