On the afternoon of May 24, in Buon Ma Thuot city, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Dak Lak province to organize a conference to develop the durian industry sustainably.
Central Party Committee member, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy attended and chaired the conference.
The event aims to find solutions to remove obstacles in production organization, improve processing capacity and control the quality of durian for export.
The thematic presentations will focus on the production situation and opening of the Vietnamese durian market; consumption status, food safety testing system; presentations from key export enterprises.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Van - Acting Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee said that the local durian growing area has reached 38,800 hectares, accounting for 21.7% of the country's durian growing area. The growth rate of durian output is about 126 thousand tons/year. Durian output in 2024 alone will reach over 1.5 million tons.
According to Mr. Van, the province proposed to develop a project to develop high-quality durian in conjunction with building a national brand, taking Dak Lak province as a point. There are still many challenges and limitations for the durian industry.
Specifically, the rate of growing areas and packaging facilities granted export codes is still low. The application of science and technology in production is still limited, and the quality is not uniform. In particular, the agricultural product value chain is still loose, and the production infrastructure is not yet synchronous.
"The Central Government needs to complete the legal basis, regulations, standards, processes and procedures for durian products. Thereby, meeting the requirements of the import market.
At the same time, it is necessary to establish food safety testing centers, plant quarantine and inspection facilities in the province to monitor and control the presence of active ingredients," Mr. Van added.

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized: "The General Administration of Customs of China has officially recognized 829 additional growing area codes and 131 codes of durian packaging facilities in Vietnam. This is the result of a proactive effort from Vietnam, not a random occurrence.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, during the recent difficult period, the ministry and specialized agencies have actively taken action, built processes, and completed technical documents to fully meet the strict requirements from the Chinese side.
This is proof that Vietnam does not sit still waiting, but is always proactive and opulent in international cooperation. The agreement between the two countries clearly demonstrates goodwill to together remove technical problems.
" Next week, a working group of ministries will work directly with the General Administration of Customs of China to resolve outstanding issues. Including the process of inspection, customs clearance, control of growing area codes, packaging facility codes. Thereby creating favorable conditions for the export flow of durian in Vietnam," added the Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
