In the context of strong national digital transformation, the Ministry of Information and Communications (now the Ministry of Science and Technology) has officially issued a roadmap for turning off 2G waves nationwide in September 2026, in order to re-plan the frequency band to support modern 4G/5G technology.
This is a strategic decision of the State, demonstrating the integration with the global trend when many countries have turned off old technology waves (2G, 3G) to focus resources on more advanced technologies. turning off 2G waves not only releases bandwidth for high-speed services but also helps reduce outdated infrastructure operating costs, while improving the quality of national connectivity. In the world, more than 100 countries have completed this, such as: UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan..., creating a foundation for sustainable digital economic development.
