Building a 360 million USD aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul complex in Quang Ninh

Quang Ninh - On June 16, Sun Group signed a joint venture agreement to invest and develop a complex for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul at Van Don International Airport.

The signing ceremony was held at Van Don International Airport (HKQT), Quang Ninh province between Sun Group, HAECO, Japan Airlines and Toyota Tsusho.

Accordingly, the parties will establish a joint venture to invest and develop a complex for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) with a total capital of 360 million USD at Van Don International Airport.

The project marks a new development step for Van Don International Airport when it becomes the first private airport in Vietnam to cooperate in investing in a large-scale aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul complex. This also brings Van Don International Airport a golden opportunity to break through, becoming an aviation traffic hub and an important aviation industry center of the country.

According to the signed agreement, the parties will jointly invest and develop the MRO complex at Van Don International Airport on an area of over 20 hectares. Phase 1, the project is designed according to international standards with the ability to simultaneously receive 4 wide-body aircraft and 2 narrow-body aircraft, becoming one of the largest aircraft maintenance facilities in Vietnam. Phase 2 is expected to expand the area and capacity of the aircraft hangar to optimize operation and improve economic efficiency.

The project is expected to be put into operation from 2028, and is expected to create nearly 1,000 jobs, including about 200 experts and foreign workers, contributing to the development of high-quality technical human resources in the aviation industry, a field that is in high demand for human resources and needs systematic and long-term investment.

This is also the first time a cooperation program has gathered major names in the fields of aviation, aviation engineering and international industry in Vietnam.

The combination of international technical capabilities of HAECO - the world's leading aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul group currently serving more than 300 airlines; operating experience of Japan Airlines - a globally famous Japanese national airline with high-class service quality and a vast flight network; the global industrial and commercial network of Toyota Tsusho - a global trading group belonging to Toyota Group, along with the advantages of the aviation ecosystem that Sun Group is developing, is expected to create a solid "four pillars" foundation for a leading MRO complex in Vietnam.
