15 years with many meaningful activities
One morning in early May, Major General Vo So leaned against a cane and stepped into a wooden cabinet with worn-out wings, taking out his uniform that had been neatly hung for many years. Each order and medal was meticulously adjusted by him on his chest. At the age of 97, each movement is no longer agile, but his eyes still shine with solemnity and emotion. He is preparing to attend the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - an event he has attended 4 times, but the emotions described are "still the same as the first time".
Major General Vo So (born in 1929), former Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Commander of the Political Department of Corps 12, Chairman of the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association of Vietnam. The Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association of Vietnam is a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
In 2011, Major General Vo So and tens of thousands of Truong Son veterans excitedly received the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs allowing the establishment of the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association of Vietnam. Major General Vo So was trusted and elected as Chairman of the Association. The Association focuses on 2 major activities: preserving and promoting traditions, protecting the heroic Truong Son heritage and organizing and coordinating activities to show gratitude and affection for Truong Son, educating young generations to contribute to building a strong and developed Vietnam.
Major General Vo So said that the Association always determines that activities must be associated with the program of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. "In the activities of the Fatherland Front, the most important content is solidarity. Along with that, we must always pay attention to difficult cases, remote and isolated areas" - the Major General said.
That spirit is concretized by thousands of social security activities over the years. Since its establishment, the Association has mobilized social resources to carry out gratitude and charity activities. In which, the Association has linked and participated in mobilizing philanthropists to support and sponsor the construction of 6 spiritual works, which are martyrs' temples and historical relics; Mobilizing members to contribute to building new rural areas, supporting people in disaster-stricken and flood-stricken areas, humanitarian and charity funds...
The Association has supported the repair, upgrading and new construction of more than 3,000 houses; supported and helped member families in difficult circumstances to rise out of poverty.
In addition, the Association also provides documents and witnesses for filmmakers to build dozens of documentaries and reports; organizes writing camps, launches memoir writing contests, war memories, literary and artistic creations; edits and publishes nearly 390 books about Truong Son, Truong Son soldiers and the Truong Son Vietnam Association...
These are not just numbers, but also the solidarity of the Truong Son soldiers of the past - those who went through the war together, and now continue to accompany in peacetime with comradeship and social responsibility.
This is the enthusiasm of all of us members. We put the spirit of solidarity first, always united and supporting each other" - Mr. Vo So said.
Heartfelt voices sent to the Front
As a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Major General Vo So said that the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association of Vietnam always actively participates in activities, forums and meetings organized by the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
In the process of operation, the Association not only participates in social work but also proactively reflects issues from real life to the Vietnam Fatherland Front and functional agencies.
According to Major General Vo So, the 11th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front is a very special congress. Because this is the first congress after implementing the arrangement of socio-political organizations under the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
According to Major General, expanding the composition and gathering more social organizations to participate is a suitable direction. "The Vietnam Fatherland Front has gathered a large number of social forces. This is something we are very happy about. Because only when social forces are gathered can the strength of solidarity be promoted" - Major General said.
Entering the new term of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, what the Major General expects is not grand slogans but the continued promotion of the core values that have been built over many years.
In addition, Major General also wished the Front to continue to pay more attention to people in remote and isolated areas, people with meritorious services and policy beneficiaries.
And like previous participations, the oldest delegate of this year's congress still carries the enthusiasm, responsibility and steadfast belief of a Truong Son soldier who has been associated with the spirit of national unity for life.
I expect that in the new term, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will continue to further promote its role of supervision and social criticism" - Mr. Vo So said and said that this is a very important function to contribute to building a clean and strong Party and government.
