Famous for its tradition of studiousness with the proverb "First Mo, second La, third Canh, Cot". Mo in this proverb is the two villages Tay Mo and Dai Mo, in which Tay Mo village has 7 doctors: Nguyen Am (passed in 1453), Hoang Thieu (1475); Nghiem Hoang Dat (Bang Nhan, 1583), Nguyen Duong Bao (1673), Nghiem Ba Dinh (1733), Do Huy Dien (Pho Bang, 1875) and Nghiem Xuan Quang (1895). Today, the tradition of studiousness of Tay Mo people is still promoted with generations, excellent students are all awarded at the village temple, with awards from the scholarship fund...
Tay Mo village is a land rich in identity when many tangible and intangible cultural beauties are preserved and conserved. Tay Mo people are simple, friendly and hospitable, ready to show and guide visitors from afar to the right destination.
The village gate, also known as Phuong gate, was built hundreds of years ago and later renovated, but still retains its ancient features with the words Phuong Linh Mon (ie Phuong gate). The village communal house was built in the 17th century, worshiping two tutelary gods, Long Hai Dai Vuong and A La Nang De, and is a unique architectural work of art. Walking around the village, visitors can see familiar images from the ancient communal house, ancient pagoda, ancient well, banyan tree, water wharf... to red brick walls, mossy tiled roofs dating back hundreds of years - bringing the typical scenery of the Northern countryside. Therefore, Tay Mo village is also jokingly called "Hollywood Mo" when it became the setting for many TV series and movies, typically the movies: "Dat va nguoi", "Gio lang Kinh", "Ghost lang", "Bac Ca - nguoi sung hac" or the movie "Loi ngua huyet ngai".
Across the road is Phu Thu village, with traditional occupations of gold plating (bronze drops) and tinsmithing (forging metal tools and soldering tin). According to Ms. Duong Thi Thu Huong, a daughter of Tay Mo, Phu Thu is roughly translated into Vietnamese as “cutting words”, which can be understood as “rich” or “rich”, while “Thu” here means rank, order (including forgiveness). So, literally translated, Phu Thu can be translated as “rich - crowded”.
Coming to Tay Mo is coming to a land rich in culture.
