Risky investment...
Before leaving for Miss International 2024, Miss Thanh Thuy spent many months honing all skills from communication, behavior, catwalk, makeup, English...
Ms. Pham Kim Dung - representative of the copyright holder of the Miss International contest said that the training process for Thanh Thuy was a long process and the company invested seriously in everything from physical training to improving qualifications and knowledge.
Before Thanh Thuy, this unit also had 2 international beauty queens: Miss Grand International Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien and Miss
Intercontinental (Miss Intercontinental) - Nguyen Le Bao Ngoc and many other beauties are in the Top of other prestigious competitions. These beauties all have a long time to cultivate, practice and prepare their skills before "bringing the bell to strike foreign lands". However, Ms. Pham Kim Dung did not disclose the specific amount of money this unit spent for Thanh Thuy as well as other representatives to compete in international beauty contests.
As a representative of a unit with many beauties competing internationally such as: Do Tran Khanh Ngan crowned Miss Globe 2017, Phuong Khanh crowned Miss Earth 2018, Kim Duyen won the title of 2nd Runner-up Miss Supranational 2022..., Mr. Phuc Nguyen said that the most important thing when choosing a representative to compete internationally is to be "bloodthirsty", serious and persistent.
"I often say that I am looking for "warriors" because they must have passion, seriousness and determination when competing. International competition is not a one-day or two-day event, but a long period of time with almost dense activities, so that representative must be a truly courageous person.
Finally, it is foreign languages, you have to communicate so that you can convey what you want. As for other skills, the team will invite experts to train you further. It must be admitted that when entering the competitions, most of you have a good foundation, level, and good foreign languages, so when you improve them further, you will shine even more.
If successful, it is a combination between the candidate and the sending unit, not belonging to any one person" - Mr. Phuc Nguyen said.
Mr. Phuc Nguyen also admitted that the units have to accept certain risks even if the beauty wins or not. Because the investment to send Vietnamese beauties to international competitions is not a small amount, but if the Vietnamese representative "loses everything" in a competition, the company will almost never get the money back.
In the event that the beauty wins the title, the company still faces risks when there are cases of "resting on their laurels" and not following the original direction the company set out: "In Korea or many other countries, the relationship between the company and the talent (tentatively translated: artist) is legally bound, but in Vietnam there are no such strict regulations. There are cases where, after winning the title, the beauty "rests on her laurels", considering it as her own success and making things difficult for the management company".
Another risk for organizations that have Vietnamese representatives in international beauty pageants is the enormous pressure from public opinion. When sending a beauty to compete, everyone expects them to win, but in a contest with dozens or hundreds of countries, everyone invests in the hope that their country's representative will win. For companies that have had beauties win the crown, this pressure is much greater.
Although there have been 3 Vietnamese beauties who have won beauty pageants in international beauty contests, Ms. Pham Kim Dung admitted that when sending beauties to international beauty pageants, "fate" is not in her hands, no matter how hard she prepares, there are other factors that come into play. "There were times when we came up empty-handed in contests and had to accept "public opinion's hammer and sickle". Although we know the criteria of the contest, finding such a role model is very difficult. Once we find one, the company will try to cultivate it, but that depends on each person's qualities" - Ms. Pham Kim Dung said.
...but meaningful
Although it is a risky investment, if Vietnamese beauties succeed in international competitions, it will also bring many benefits to themselves, enhance the reputation of the company, and especially contribute to spreading the culture and beautiful image of Vietnamese women.
Vietnamese beauties participating in international beauty contests can be considered as "media ambassadors" to spread the culture and good things of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends. One of the Vietnamese beauties with a proud tenure is Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien. During the year of being crowned Miss Grand International, Thuy Tien actively did charity work in many countries around the world.
Having served as the general director for many beauty contests such as Miss Vietnam, Miss World Vietnam..., director Hoang Nhat Nam believes that the images of beautiful people gracefully in Ao Dai, national costumes or in videos introducing themselves are images of the homeland, the country, and the Vietnamese people that help convey messages and culture about Vietnam. Whether those representatives achieve success or not, we can still feel grateful because the two words "Vietnam" have been shouted loudly on stage in front of international friends.
"I think that Vietnamese beauties participating in or achieving high titles at international competitions is one of the most effective ways to promote and advertise culture and tourism, and is widely accepted by the public. Perhaps this is also something we should encourage because when Vietnamese girls are beautiful, talented and achieve high results at international beauty contests, it means that we can promote more widely about the country and Vietnamese people in the new era" - director Hoang Nhat Nam shared.
In addition, Mr. Phuc Nguyen also hopes that management units will create conditions for Vietnamese beauties who have won the title to increase their recognition with international friends, becoming representatives that the world is interested in. From there, their words will have weight and become ambassadors to convey messages about the country, culture and people of Vietnam to the international community.
