Create a habit for workers to think about books, find and read books

Linh Nguyên |

The daytime of workers is often divided into work, meals, teaching children and resting. Very few people arrange a whole period of time to read books.

Therefore, the Trade Union is gradually arousing the habit of turning to books in each worker.

Spend time with family

Unlike workers from provinces coming to Hanoi to work, Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Tinh lives right in Kim No. Every day when she goes to Thang Long industrial park to work, both ways take about 30 minutes to travel. Going to work in the morning, returning home in the afternoon, Ms. Tinh takes advantage of cooking rice and cleaning the house.

Her husband was on his way home from work to pick up his 2 children at school. At about 7 pm, the whole family had dinner, then the two spouses divided up to tutor their children. At 10 pm, the whole family went to sleep. Ms. Tinh confided: "Staying on a production line at the company is quite tiring, in the evening I worry about family matters, so after tutoring the children, I just want to go to sleep, I can't have time to read books.

Going to Facebook, TikTok to see a few hot stories on social networks, I also have to take advantage of the time when I'm already in bed. But many days, just bringing my phone up, my eyes get stuck and many times my phone falls in my face" - Ms. Tinh recounted.

There is a reality today that workers do not spend money to buy books to read for two main reasons. One is not having time, two is not having funds because income has been spent on living expenses. Besides, it is true that workers read social networks a lot, but there, they watch the news that is being watched, and then that news passes very quickly. Therefore, there are still many people who want to come to books to read. Therefore, it is very necessary to have places with books for workers to take advantage of to read.

Creating conditions for workers to "return" to books

Talking about workers reading books, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai - Chairman of the Trade Union of Meiko Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Thach That - Quoc Oai industrial park) said that in the emulation movement for initiatives and creativity, workers will explore and learn to come up with ideas and initiatives. They can read about techniques online.

The process of improving knowledge will form a reading habit. Here, bookshelves are placed in locations that workers can easily observe such as dining halls, offices, dormitories so that workers can easily access them when coming to eat during shifts. Seeing bookshelves every day is also a factor that arouses the habit of thinking about books, looking for books to read.

In order to build a learning environment and improve knowledge and skills for all employees, Meiko Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. has developed regulations on the use of internal libraries. In which, some main contents such as applying to all employees with labor contracts. Each time borrowing, a maximum of 2 books, for a term of 4 weeks (extended 1 time for a maximum of 2 weeks).

Register to borrow books via link/QR and receive - return books according to a fixed schedule, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm every Wednesday through the dedicated staff of each department/stage. The regulations also clearly state that employees are responsible for preserving books, returning them on time and not transferring them to others.

In case of damage, loss of books or expiry, they will be handled according to regulations. Along with that regulation, the company also guides the 3-step book borrowing process so that everyone can follow it when needed. In addition to communication books, Japanese books, children's books, and novels, there are also books on techniques related to expertise. It is known that in the near future, 700 more books on expertise will be equipped for the company's library.

One of the factors to implement lifelong learning is to read books. Here, reading books is to improve legal knowledge, expertise and knowledge to serve life. Seeing this clearly, many grassroots trade unions have coordinated to organize bookshelves for workers to read on the spot or borrow at home. In Hanoi, the City Labor Federation directs trade union levels to effectively use legal bookshelves, books, and newspapers of the Trade Union organization.

Currently, levels are effectively implementing, exploiting, and managing 354 legal bookshelves at worker dormitories, 186 Trade Union Relaxation Corners, over 2. 365 legal bookshelves at enterprises... The Capital Trade Union regularly supplements propaganda materials, leaflets of all kinds, legal advice, life skills... for existing bookshelves.

Many businesses invest in legal bookshelves with a variety of books, newspapers, documents, arranging reading rooms for typical workers such as: Bookshelves at the Meiko Vietnam Electronics Co., Ltd.'s dining hall; Panasonic Vietnam Co., Ltd.'s Book Library (Bac Thang Long Industrial Park); Bookshelves at the Workers' Cultural Activity Point of Stanley Vietnam Electronics Co., Ltd. (Gia Lam); Library, Trade Union Corner of Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Knowledge Connection Bookcase of Sumi Hanel Co., Ltd.; Reading Area of SWCC Showa Vietnam Co., Ltd. This is the place where the Trade Union organization arouses the habit of reading books in each worker.
