Fighting for independence with the whole nation
The Vietnam Workers' Group (GCCN VN) was born and developed in conjunction with the colonial exploitation process of French colonialism in the late 19th century.
At the end of 1920, patriotic worker Ton Duc Thang mobilized the establishment of Ba Son Festival in Saigon, pioneering the movement to fight for class liberation and national liberation. The formation and development of the Bac Ky Red Trade Union is closely linked to the revolutionary activities of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc in the early years of the 20th century. In June 1925, the Founder organized the Vietnam Youth Revolutionary Association in Guangzhou - China and directly taught to improve political theory for students.
Recognizing the important role of the Party organization and workers in the struggle against the empire, exploitation, and protection of workers' rights, Nguyen Duc Canh and his comrades actively organized a campaign for the workers' movement, first of all the Bac Ky workers' movement, to establish the Party organization. On July 28, 1929, the first Congress of the Red River Trade Union of Bac Ky opened, chaired by comrade Nguyen Duc Canh. The Congress decided to establish the Bac Ky Red Cross Society, through the Charter and organization system of the Society, to issue the newspaper "Lao Dong" and the magazine "Red Society", and elected the Provisional Central Executive Committee headed by Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh. Since then, the GCCN of Vietnam has had a large revolutionary organization, operating with principles and purposes, leading the movement.
Under the leadership of the Party, the Trade Union organization is truly the center of solidarity of Vietnamese workers. With over 20,000 people in 1945, union members became the core force that successfully carried out the August 1945 Revolution, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - the first Agricultural State in Southeast Asia.
After a period of fighting for power and resistance against French and American invaders, the GCCN and the Trade Union always affirmed their role. In the first years of the country's independence, the Vietnam Trade Union and GCCN organizations made many important contributions to protecting and promoting the achievements of the August Revolution. Performing the task of both resistance and national defense, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has organized a campaign for employees to focus on building factories, workshops, and producing weapons and military equipment; overcoming difficulties, enthusiastically competing for labor to serve the resistance.
At the 2nd Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, the goal: "Encouraging cadres, workers and civil servants to compete in labor production, building socialism in the North with the spirit of each person working as two for the South as the whole, contributing to the fight for national unity" was set out. In the following years, many trade unions promptly encouraged employees to compete in labor, production, and strive to complete the assigned plan. During the General Offensive and Uprising of the Spring of Mouth 1968 and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the Liberation Union (the Southern Liberation Union Union established in 1965) mobilized workers in urban areas to rise up, coordinate with armed forces to destroy the enemy, contribute with the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army to completely liberate the South, and unify the Fatherland...
Being a key part when the country enters a new era
Entering the digital transformation phase, green economy and global value chain, the set goals are higher. That is to build a team of skilled - technological - disciplined workers. In 2024 alone, there will be more than 123,000 initiatives and nearly 3,000 creative projects implemented in practice. In particular, the "1 million initiatives" program launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2022 has doubled the target, bringing more than VND33,000 billion in value. These figures have affirmed the desire of workers to contribute their intelligence and strength to the country.
Recently, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized the National "Creative Labor Day 2025" Program to honor the spirit of innovation, creativity and the aspiration to contribute of tens of millions of union members, employees and workers in the cause of building a strong and prosperous Vietnam. This is a practical action in response to the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; demonstrating the determination of union members, workers and trade union organizations to accompany the whole country, striving to achieve the socio-economic growth target of over 8% in 2025, creating momentum for double-digit growth in the period of 2026 - 2030.
Reality shows that the GCCN and the Vietnam Trade Union have continuously grown and matured, actively contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, especially in the period of innovation and international integration. In recent years, the emulation movement "Good workers - Creative workers" launched by the Trade Union organization has truly become a strong driving force, arousing the spirit of innovation and the desire to contribute among the team of workers and laborers. "Good workers, Creative workers" is not only a slogan but has been deeply imbued with, becoming a regular, continuous and persistent activity of each union member and employee at the grassroots level.
