Building on-site cultural institutions to serve workers
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (name changed) is a worker at a wood company in Bien Hoa City, has worked for 3 years and is not married. He rented a room of more than 10 square meters at a cost of about 1 million VND/month, including electricity and water. However, he rarely stays in the office, spends most of his time going to work and only comes home in the evening.
"When I get home from work, after eating, I often lock myself in a rented room to watch the phone" - Mr. Thuy said.
Due to lack of entertainment space and little entertainment space, in the evening, many workers often choose to walk around cheap shops along the roads to change the wind, instead of staying in squat-down boarding houses.
Mr. Nguyen Gia Thai (36 years old), a union officer of TKG Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company (Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park, Dong Nai) said that currently, the living space for workers after working hours is still limited, not meeting the needs of workers. Especially in areas with large industrial parks and a large number of workers - this issue needs further attention.
Mr. Dinh Sy Phuc - Chairman of the Trade Union of TKG Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company also said that workers and laborers want to have a sports playground and activities after work near their place of residence and work to create efficiency.
According to the Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor, the province has many industrial parks scattered in districts and cities. Therefore, in order for the majority of workers to benefit from the institutions of the Trade Union organization, it is necessary to build cultural centers in industrial parks in the province to serve the essential needs of local workers.
Enterprises proactively care for union members and workers
The representative of the union of a company with a large number of workers in Vinh Cuu district said that all cultural and sports activities must be rented outside. For example, football tournaments that have to rent out courts, mass art competitions or reward outstanding workers must be held right in the company cafeteria with a tight space.
However, many businesses have proactively invested in building large-scale cultural institutions to care for workers' lives. Utilities such as dormitories, kindergartens, supermarkets, cultural living areas, gymnasiums, sports fields, etc. are formed, helping to improve the material and spiritual life of workers.
In 2022, Phong Thai Group, Trang Bom district inaugurated a multi-purpose stadium for workers with an area of nearly 4,000m2, with an investment of over 30 billion VND.
According to the representative of Phong Thai Group, the multi-purpose stadium aims to create conditions for increasingly diverse sports activities, meeting the needs of healthy playgrounds for workers in the companies under the group after daily working hours.
In 2024, a representative of Hwaseung Vina Co., Ltd. (Nhon Trach 1 Industrial Park, Nhon Trach District) also officially put into use the GWP Complex Center (abbreviated as Great Work Place) to serve the entertainment and rest needs of workers and many other utilities.
The GWP Center is equipped with many functional rooms, including: Trade Union room - Party Cell meeting room, Legal aid room, Supermarket, Entertainment room, Health room and Food Distribution Area for workers. In particular, the Entertainment room attracts great attention from workers, with amenities such as chess tables, chess, billiards, table tennis and resting hammocks. The Mini Supermarket area provides essential items at reasonable prices, helping workers save time shopping after work.
Other functional departments always have union officials and staff on duty regularly to support and answer questions about regimes, policies, psychological consultation and health care for workers and laborers.
A representative of the Board of Directors of Hwaseung Vina Co., Ltd. emphasized that the construction of the GWP Center is an important step forward, not only bringing a modern working space but also showing concern for the spiritual life of workers and laborers. This affirms the company's commitment to creating a quality working environment, providing maximum support for employees. The company expects the utilities from the GWP Center to help workers stay with the GWP for a long time and contribute more in the coming years.
