In recent years, trade union levels in Lao Cai have constantly innovated the content and methods of operation, taking care of and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers better and better.
From grassroots practice, many solutions to develop union members are being implemented synchronously, towards the goal of increasing both quantity and quality.
According to records from Bao Thang Commune Trade Union, the unit manages 36 grassroots trade unions with 1,713 union members, of which women account for more than 47%.
Grassroots units are distributed in a wide area, stretching across many highland communes, with units nearly 100km from the center, but union member development work is still maintained effectively.

To expand the force, the trade union strengthens sticking to the grassroots level, directly surveying businesses, propagating and mobilizing workers to participate in the organization.
On March 17, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Chairman of Bao Thang Commune Trade Union said that the development of union members cannot be separated from the work of caring for the lives of workers. When rights are guaranteed, workers will actively participate and be attached to the trade union organization for a long time.

Reality shows that care activities have created a clear spread. During the 2026 Lunar New Year, Bao Thang Commune Trade Union presented 165 gifts through the "Trade Union Tet Market" program, supported 193 million VND for Tet market money, presented 70 gifts from the Provincial People's Committee, 30 gifts from the Party and State worth 45 million VND, and many gifts for orphans and union members in difficult circumstances.
Grassroots trade unions also proactively deployed many practical activities, taking care of 1,265 turns of union members with a total budget of 379.5 million VND; organized 8 year-end meals with a budget of more than 81 million VND; 8 units organized "Tet Sum vay" with 271 participants.

Mr. Dinh Cong Binh - Chairman of the Trade Union of Thanh Cong Trading Joint Stock Company shared that joining the trade union brings many benefits, helping workers to be protected in their rights, access support policies and have a support when facing difficulties.
Businesses also always closely coordinate with higher-level trade unions in implementing activities to care for union members and build harmonious and stable labor relations.

In addition, propaganda work continued to be promoted with 1,020 union members being trained and thoroughly grasped the guidelines and policies; dozens of news and articles were published, spreading images of trade union activities.
However, the work of developing union members still faces many difficulties when most businesses in the area are small in scale, operating unstable, and some are seasonal, so they are not really interested in trade union organizations.
Faced with that reality, trade union levels continue to innovate their approaches, promote digital transformation in union member management, and at the same time improve the quality of activities to create sustainable attraction.


In the coming time, we will continue to organize working groups to go to the grassroots level, grasp the situation, and mobilize the establishment of trade unions at qualified enterprises; and at the same time improve the quality of operations so that each trade union organization is truly a reliable support for workers," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh added.
